Recently obtained a beautiful Svea 154/155 combination camp stove in nicely made box. Would love to restore to working order. Looking for diagrams, tips/tricks and parts. Needed right away are replacement pump leathers/rubbers. I know nothing about these stoves except what little bit I've read here, so any guidance would be appreciated. Would like to post pictures, but unsure how to do it in this interface. Thanks in advance, Joe
Welcome, @JoeRich 1. The site sponsor, The Fettlebox (link but on holidays at the moment), has the spare leather pump cups, washers and seals you require. 2. Look through this thread. You might find examples that show the refurbishment of similar stoves. 3. At the bottom of the box you type into is an “Upload a File” button. Click it and then upload a JPG or JPEG photo. Come back with any questions. Cheers Tony
Tony, Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I did try to upload pics but got jammed up in Firefox - seems to work ok in Safari. I look forward to learning more about this stove and get it working again. Best regards, Joe
Someone did an incredible job making the camp box for it. Even has pin striping, latches and handles. Stove fits like a glove. Metal heat reflector panels throughout the inside.
I'm getting no reply after several attempts to contact the folks at Fettlebox. I know I need new pump leathers, but am clueless as to the size. Looking for help identifying and obtaining the correct replacement parts. If anyone out there can help, I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance, Joe
Have you considered making your own pump leathers? If you can find some 1.5-1.75mm-ish leather, you only need to cut out some circles, soak in water and press into the end of the pump tube with suitably sized socket or similar, and allow to dry. Cutting the hole for attachment is easiest with a hollow punch but can be done with a craft knife with care. Several threads on here on the subject, here's one athough fancy jigs etc are not required.
what a great idea. Thank you so much for that idea and the link. I'm sure that I can find a spare belt in my closet that doesn't fit me anymore - you did know that they shrink in length as you get older right? Thanks again, Joe
If you get old enough, they start stretching again. Belt leather is almost certainly too thick for a pump leather. You're looking for something more the thickness of the tongue of a shoe. Learning how to make pump leathers from a piece of leather is a really useful skill. Could be a lifesaver in the field. ....Arch
I use upper leather from worn out walking shoes or working boots - easy to get for free and usually right thickness. Be aware that when bending the lip, it thickens more than you would believe - it can easily become 3 times thicker than the flat leather depending on how it had been treated before.
This forum is the best! Thank you for your suggestions/tips. We'll get this stove running again yet. It's a beauty and I'd love to see it restored back to operation. Joe
I have one email dated Friday. I have a job outside of Fettlebox working Friday to Sunday so will reply today with the info you requested if you still need it.
Yes please - would love to have your input. I don't understand why you only received one of my inquiries - probably my fault due to lack of familiarity with the website. My apologies. Joe
