Can anyone identfy this little jobbie.
    vulcano1.jpg

It's stamped 'Made in Germany' in English on the bottom.
The double handles fold back against the body presumably to fit in ones pocket.

    vulcano2.jpg

The rather fetching double flame effect is because of a small jet hole in the sticky up spigot, this spigot is a tube, blanked off at the top and a wick up the inside. It also has another cylindrical wick around the outside of the spigoty thing.
When lit, the outside wick heats up the spigoty thing and the extra flame appears after a bit of a splutter.
I tried it first with paraffin but it burned with a large smoke plume. It's burning here with Meths.
    Kinda pretty ain't it. :)
It's obviously a light of some sort but what is the extra flame out of the front for?

    i think it's a fndu burner (sp?)

The kind used at posh resturants and piosh parties to keep food on the table hot. However...it could be something else.

Nah don't like that theory. :?
Why would they make it pocketable?
In posh caffs they would use something with a stand with a little burner like a Trangia or tea lights inside.
    Good try though. ;)

The wifes just got in from visiting the daughter and the new twins so I lit it up. You could see the excitement on her face ;)
This time the central flame was much smaller and the sticky out flame was more pronounced.
I only bought it because it looked like a hip flask

    Henry,
If you go to ebay's home page and go into the ebay Germany site then do a search for:

    l?tlampe

    or

    heizlampe

you may find something similar. A lot of these pocket sized burners/blowlamps come up there - check out the descriptions with babelfish (unless you read German).
It's a bit long winded and babelfish isn't perfect but the German ebay site is worth a look.
Whilst you're there check out benzinkocher, petroleumkocher, and spirituskocher; there is often some interestin stuff there.

    Henry,

Don't forget that Siggy came from the former East Germany if you want help with the language.

    Colin.

BTW I would think that your comment about the Norfolk Mountains may have been lost on those who aren't familiar with the terrain !

Henry, Haven't a clue what it is but didn't I see that on eBay the other day?

'Alemania' always make me chuckle - fancy naming your country after a medical condition (from which I've 'suffered' for many years...)

Checked out the German ebay site, no luck.
My son James came up with a good one.
Maybe it's for lighting candles, if you have a lot of them on say a candlebra, hence the flame coming out the front. Little smart arse :)

Henry pull the wick and burner out and fill with rum. I bet you will get a lot of comments on those cold nights.

A good friend of mine returned from a trip to foreign parts (somewhere South of the Isle of Wight I think it was) and brought me back a bottle of 'Capitan Huk' Original Spiced Rum, so I may just do that :D

My first post in a while - I'll catch up this week!
I've just been going through some paperwork as I've a collector visiting at the moment & found this old ad in the files which answers your question. Apparently you need a waistcoat to carry it in!

    I don't have waistcoat.
I did use it last night to light some candles just to amuse son James, but then by the time you light it and let it get a head of steam you could have lit all the candles with a match.
    It looks pretty anyway.
Little talking point to add to the collection.

I have just come across this thread.

I was fascinated at the start - rather like reading a 'who-done-it' novel.
Unfortunately the end of the book was then read and the culprit was given. A mystery and a solution in a little space. I had started to think that it would run for a number of days before the true solution was arrived at. In the meantime, we could have all had lots of fun guessing what it was. I thought it was a dual-purpose hip flask and car lock de-icer (was thinking of going to the Patent Office).

Still - we should all be grateful that Ross is back on-board!
