    Hi there you stovies :D/
New here, but I read you much, and I learned a lot here. I usually use modern multi fuel stoves, but I got one of this from my uncle last fall.

    1328041790-DSC01777_opt.jpg

Didn't try to use it till recently because there was no free time to try it. In meanwhile I found You guys and read a lot. The stove needed a proper cleaning so I do that,

    1328042041-DSC01776_opt.jpg

not so detail, but it is not black any more. Priming looks god,

    1328042129-DSC01779_opt.jpg

but the flame don't at all.

    1328042185-DSC01780_opt.jpg

Did some more cleaning, change the wipe, gauze in the bras net with new gauze in the bras net, but stiffer and pushed all to the knee. And another try looks like this.

    1328042358-DSC01782_opt.jpg

    1328042383-DSC01787_opt.jpg

The pressure was god, the flame strength was also ok, the sound was ok, but the color was not. So I decided to leave to burn like that, and after some 20min color started to change.

    1328042639-DSC01817_opt.jpg

    1328042835-DSC01825_opt.jpg

And some 45min's from start, the flame start to be much weaker very fast. This last one is just few seconds before this baby went of.

    1328042859-DSC01831_opt.jpg

There was not any fuel in the tank. Actually it was but just few drops at the bottom.
My question is. Is this normal for this stove? I mean flame color's. Is maybe problem with jet? And how long it can burn with one tank of fuel?
I'm using washing gasoline, because there is only Primus PowerFuel here, and is to expensive. Can buy 3l of washing gasoline for one liter of PPF. I do priming with meths, a lot of it.

Thanks in advance. Any advice is very welcome.

Hy Trooly, maybe the stove had some old (dirty) fuel in it, and you kinda burned it off (doesn't have to be a lot of fuel, also not detected contamination like additives that stuck to the fount etc. may be the cause of the yellow flames). Other than that, the stove seems to perform great, so if I were you, I'd not bother much!

Best regards and welcome to CCS!

    Welcome to CCS, Trooly!

I believe that next time you try this stove, the flame will be blue after 1 - 2 minutes (as soon as it gets hot enough).

If it still has yellow flames, you can try raising the flame plate a little bit. I did it on my 8R clone and it got me a beautiful blue flame - see here:

    Enjoy!

nice stove! i like the 8R (tho' *some* folks 'round these parts don't have a high opinion of 'em)

let's see how it runs on a new tank of fresh fuel!

and for what it's worth, i have had this happen with a recently cleaned stove and stoves that had been sitting for a time - burn off the bad stuff, then on with the good!

    Thanx for fast reply.
Actually I'm not worried about anything, just would like to know THE secret. Will try tomorrow to raise the flame spreader, but I think that is up enough. I have readied basically all posts about 8R clones, and 8R itself. But it is always god to read again.
    Thanx again

Your 8R stove appears to be
working fine. It does not appear
    to have any problems.

Why fix it till you break it ?

Trooly, 45 minutes is the average run time for a 8R with a "full" tank of fuel.

I have also noticed that older stoves, both white gas and kerosene, will burn yellow for a while if they had not been used for a while, or maybe run on some suspect fuel. The temptation was to take it apart and clean every thing, add some additive, etc. I now suspect that much of the time they would have healed themselves had I done nothing but add fresh fuel and been patient and let them burn. But what fun is that?

Trooly, don't run 'er dry if you can avoid it, good way to trash out the wick, and then you WILL have some repairing to do!

    Hi Murph!
Didn't run it dry, don't worry. Turned it off when pressure went to low side of the moon
Still some fuel left in the tank.
