Actually the modification is non-destructive...it's just a simple matter of re-assembling the parts into their original configuration.
Hi This was such a great idea using the cheap Chinese adapter , but i found this type to be a direct fit for the Gaz Globtrotter burner arangement & this will screw directly on to the silver adapter when the brass mixing tube is removed , the threads are not exactly the same but nip up nicely ...... Link......... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290987839244?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 The jet in the chinese stove adapter is too big for the gaz burner , but it has the same thread as the original gaz jet so using a 7mm socket/wrench i swapped over the original jet to the new adapter & everything works really well & it has given my two of my four Globetrotter's burners a new lease of life 8) . One of these burners was without an original gaz pot set so i have now put this with a double set of cheapo stacking pots which fits really well too Pop some more pic's on later of mine!!!! Stu
I tried the same model stove and it didn't work quite right with the original jet. It never occurred to me to see if I could exchange the jets I'll have to revisit my attempt at converting a Gaz lantern...to see if jets can be exchanged.
Hi Spork & all Yes the Gaz jet replaces the chinese one as a direct swap & burns as it should .... & here are my other pots that now have the redundant Globetrotter burner back in the saddle & the standard Gaz Globetrotter pot Just need to get some of the small propane carts to complete these two sets Stu
Hi Sparky & All I meant to say that i have four Globetrotter stove sets , two are unfired & one of these is still in the box with all the instructions etc , the other two i have are both well used one with the original pot set as in the previous post & the one fitted to my double pot set I do have six unopened/unpierced Gaz carts for these original unfired stoves ( & i'll keep them this way ) with the ability to refill them while still on the stove with just the burner arrangement removed if i ever need to ( all thanks to work done by Gary & John 8) ). As mentioned before the other two can be returned to original spec if needed , but with the scarcity of this type of gas cannister & the stoves being well used i don't think this will ever happen hence the conversions 8) If anyone needs an original Gaz valve/cart holder for the Globetrotter type let me know Stu
Not to drag a dead horse out of the swamps but this valve will work on the lamps as well. You need to swap jets 7mm socket. I am still working out the distance between the jet and the carburetor intake holes. The tip of the jet needs to be seen just poking a little above at the lower part of the hole, too high and fire ball to low as in this case it has a short throw on the valve control and wasting fuel. I may grind the fuel stem down to achieve the optimum fuel use and peak control of the valve. I found several new and full GAZ canisters Yesterday at our local dump. They have a household toxics cleanup station where household toxics can be disposed up for free. Some of the items or given away to people who can reuse them. I grabbed a half dozen gas canisters a bunch of isobutane, Coleman fuel canisters, jetboil and MSR canisters. Keep this in mind as a local resource.
I have a couple of the old versions and newer style with the thread on canisters. I also have the backpacking lantern. It' small but puts out a lot of light. I haven' looked for any of the screw on canisters for several years so not ure if they are still available Jan
Try this setup with the large burner head from the Turbo 270 stove, just swap them. It's smaller diameter than the Chines head but man that head on the Turbo 270 is what makes that stove so special The pot stand of the chines stove make life with a big pot easy. I cook eggs every morning on it so i don't make a mess of our house stove.. Cheap excuse. I used another Chinese valve that the head would thread onto.. Need to make some sort of wind screen for this..
@Spork Hi Spork Received the link to your thread from BernieDawg as I have been trying to convert a Globetrotter stove to accept screw in cartridges. Your thread seemed to be the answer. I purchased what I thought was the same Chinese stove as you show with the Globetrotter burner connected. The only difference that I could see was that yours was orange but most shown on eBay were black. The one I purchased was black and came in an orange container. I assume you have removed the burner, stand and ignition then screwed the Globetrotter burner onto the remaining valve assembly. When I tried to do the same I found that the Globetrotter burner was too large to screw onto the valve assembly. Perhaps there is a difference in size between the orange and black stoves.
