Thanks to a fellow stove enthusiast esbit I managed to acquire my first Coleman 502, date of birth 10/69.

In great excitement I took her apart, cleaned and polished her up, filled her with fresh fuel and she fired right up :D

Here she is as I got her.

Here she is all cleaned up and running.

I did not do a full resto on her, she is going to be a "working stove", she is going to reside in the back of my VW Bus Westphalia as a backup on those camping trips I decide to go hiking out into the woods.

    A BIG thanks to esbit !!! :D :D :D

nice work..it looks like you put a lot of elbow grease into cleaning it up..
i know the hard core brass stove gang may not think thats a Classic but with
all the exposed pipes and huge knobs it looks like a city gas works from the 1930's
and thats Classic enough for me ;)

Thinking about this thread, we have the classic brass Euro stoves, so perhaps we could think of some of the Coleman's as 'New World Classics" ?

You did a great job cleaning that up. From the before pic,I would not have guessed there would be that much shine left under the rust. Nice.

Thanks for the good words, all I did was to remove the burner grate and generator, submerge it upside down in Evap-O-Rust overnight and that removed all the rust and crud, the generator and brass parts I soaked in vinegar and the paint shone right up with KIT Scratch Remover.
The aluminum colar I polished with MAAS metal polish and VOILA !

Very nice job on the stove indeed!

Did the vinegar treatment have any effect on performance of the generator unit, or more on appearance? I will have a generator job to do shortly and was wondering about resurrection of the old one...
