    Hi
i didn't see one of these in the reference gallery so i thought i'd post photo's of mine to help anybody who is looking or just interested in this stove as they are available on ebay. As it's well documented these were produced for the Asian market to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Coleman, this one is stamped 00. I got this stove because i have most of the Coleman single burners and it looks nice. I like the collar look and it has 100YR Coleman punched in vent holes; looks like a little lantern :content:

First the fount is not nickel on brass its painted, when you rub the fount it's not smooth but has small overspray pitts on the paint. You cant see them but you can feel the bumps. The paint quality is not as good as the 501/502 and feels allot lighter as i'm sure the materials are thinner than what was produced in the past. It's probably closer in weight to my 533 but that's full of gas so i cant compare weight

It's a shelf queen as i'm sure most of these are in collections. Interestingly the box has a brief history on Coleman in english but the instructions are in i think Japanese? If anybody can ready this please let me know what language is on the box. Also the picture on the box shows a special 100 yr Coleman logo in gold but the stove has a black label.

Not my favourite Coleman stove (500 500A) are the darlings for me but this one kind of closes out this type of stove from Coleman. Hope the photo's help in your decision either way

    Hello BTM,

Nice stove. There are two in the gallery. They are with the 502's though. Model number 502A is kinda the problem. Made for the Japanese market. Some came with a plate on the font numbered. Like 500 of 200000. Most don't seem to be numbered.

The fake chrome steel tanks have always been a turn off for me. But a neat looking stove.

    Link to 501A manual

    Thanks for sharing!!!

    Cheers,

    Jeff

Hi BTM A realy nice stove a great collectors piece it merges the old classic with the modern version, infact i like this design better than the standard duel fuel 533,But waht a shame to skimp on such a great stove using a metalic paint to substitute nickel/chrome infact it would have looked better if painted the original green

I total agree with both of you; this thing in nickel on Brass or just painted the standard green or red would have been a hit. I think the instant you use the silver paint your raising the expectation level of what we Coleman collectors have grown accustom too either stainless or Brass. Just feels like they could have done a much better job with something marked Centennial. Funny they released a 100 year Coleman cooler in stainless steel here in Canada, I have one and use it all the time. Been trying to acquire the 100yr lamp but don’t see many for sale and to be honest pretty low in my want list right now. Got a thing for those Optimus buggers lately :p. Does anybody know if the lamp is painted as well?

I've got one, they are OK, nothing more though, just OK. Poor quality and I think designed really just to look at.

They did make the 502A in red. For the same market in 1997.

The lamp is the same painted steel font as the stove. Sold it and happy to have.

    Thanks Jeff for the info

I’ll have to see if Terry Marsh has a red one in his data base to look at it. I guess they called it a 502A but really this until is very different as the 502 is very solid and you just feel can take some abuse while this is more of a mantel piece… nice from far but far from nice. I agree with last poster it’s just OK

I won’t bother with the lamp I suppose I could just paint one of mine silver and black if I want to create the look, besides I’m pretty fascinated with the kerosene stuff now can’t explain why… maybe because I have so many naphtha powered things or I just like the whole Pre-heater idea. I just got a NOS 96 peak 1 multi fuel the other day; mostly because I can convert it to kerosene with the right generator.

Yup there is one on Terry's site. I have been looking for one for a while but not high on the want list.

it was more than just a commemorative IMHO, it was the beginning of the end for Coleman - it will be a long, slow slide, as there is money in parts (many of which are no longer made in the U.S.)

many 'box-marts' don't even sell liquid fuel stoves or lanterns anymore - in the past several years, Target, then Sportsmans Authority, has dropped them...

in our neck of the woods, only Wally World and Ace Hardware carry Coleman-branded fuel, with only Wally World carrying the Coleman 533, 425, and 295 stoves and lanterns

Coleman has also just discontinued its 442 backpacking stove in the past month

    welcome to the global economy!

its a shame they make special stoves/lanterns for the Japanese only...
