Hi all Today, I did my first electrolysis with good results as you will see. I could not find washing soda in town so I did make some in the oven using baking soda. Now what I wanna do is to show the first 3 hrs (1 pic every hrs) and after 15 hrs and 22hrs on pictures The idea is to show what the process look like when you never see it. Last pictures the case of my 111 after clean up. Should I paint it? Or just a clear coat.
@JP2 Very nicely done. Don't waste your time making washing soda. Baking soda will work just fine. So will TSP (trisodium phosphate). I've used all three and don't see enough difference to matter. TSP will help degrease parts, but the rust removal works the same. More important is keeping the sacrificial anode clean for good current flow.

Question- when I did the electrolysis, the case was on the side and it has been easy to remove paint that was outside the case, however it was more difficult to remove the paint inside the case. WHY? THANK
The electrodes need to “see” each other for best results. It is likely that the charge density is highest in the areas with clear sight of the opposing electrodes. So exterior strips faster than interior of case. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thank you Now I am getting nervous because I don't know much about painting. Should I prime before I paint it? At the end I will apply a clear coat. Everything is high temperature. Should I go direct with paint then clear coat? ?????!!!???!!!?
On a clean surface like that primer is not really needed. However once painted it is best to "bake' the item in an oven for an hour around 250DegF (120 C) to harden the paint.
I've wanted to try this for a while now and I see you just used an old battery. I have a 111B that needs stripping and rust removal just as you have done. I also have an Enders that needs the same treatment but the aluminium rivets are a pain. I would rather not have to remove them but what would happen if I left them in place?
Hi @JP2 Looking good! Perhaps you might consider a “beer can liner” to protect the nice paint job: 111 & 8R Case Tray (and beer) You can also trap the chain on one of the pan supports to prvent loss of the regulator knob. Best Regards, Kerophile.

Hi @kerophile , yes it is the one and I have the spirit can too but not the rag. I could not safe the sticker and I have a new one but too big. I will tried too find a smaller one or make one fabric. I still don't know why a extra hole on the right side of the stove. Here some pictures When I receive it.
Hi, you have a very smart 1950s Optimus 111 roarer. A real classic and one of the best Optimus stoves ever made! I have no idea why someone has made an extra hole. 1. Does in line up with the regulator spindle when the case is closed? 2. Perhaps they wanted somewhere to park the control knob when the case was closed? 3. Yes it line up. BTW when I have seen the post you show me today but last summer, I knew it was the one I wanted and a month later, Bang, I have found it on eBay. The funny thing is I have lost the bit by 1 sec because the other bitter has been faster but on the same amount. The day after, the seller gave me a second chance to buy because he didn't trust the other bitter. Finally I got it knowing I had a special baby because of your post.
