The man's right. I filled a primus with some Do-It-All (remember them?) brand "White Spirit" and it fired up and ran just a treat - even though it smells different.
Is not Diesel fuel being a motor fuel more expensive than kerosene? I know that here in the US Kerosene is generally less expensive than Diesel because kero isn't subject to road fuel taxes... AllanD
AllanD, you are probably 100% correct in figuring diesel costs more than kerosene. In Canada, around half the cost for motor vehicle fuel is TAX! I don't mind paying for decent roads, but most of them are the pits! I probably need to locktite every nut and bolt on my work truck as the stiff suspension transmits every bump, into a nut loosening scheme bent on hauling me off the road for an inspection. OK, I am starting to digress on another political subject... The exception is dyed diesel.. Dyed meaning it has a red dye added for quick identification by the "thought police"(force people to pay out the ear, the excess tax... It is dyed for farm use only and is exempt from road tax. I cannot remember what I paid for my last couple gallons of kerosene(prepacked), so cannot prove conclusively the difference between either..

BTW, people commonly refer to Jet fuel as "kerosene", but it isn't. think of it as a blend of kerosene and naptha, the same stuff you squirt on your charcoal to get it lit so you can grill cook outdoors, stand near a runway and small the jet exhaust and any doubts of this you may have will disappear in the cloud of fumes AllanD
Not over here it's about the same price. Last lot of kero that I bought cost me a just over a fiver for 4 litres.
Down here in pastaland, if you can find kero. / paraffin you'll pay about twice the price per litre as for diesel .. Pity I can't run my stoves on red wine .. ? puts a whole new meaning to the term 'cherry(cheery) red ' ) Spudz
If I run out of fuel in out of the way places, I usually buy lamp oil or citronella oil a bit exspensive but I hate the smell of diesel and hate cleaning soot off my 111 even more.
Can you burn turps in a 111t optimus I mean the Aussie turps turpentine. Does it smell or burn hotter than kero or Shellite. Or where you refering to something else. thanks
