Hi, just thought I would make a mention about Trangia Burners. Some who have purchased a Trangia in recent years may have found that there burner leaks from the seam when fuel is left in. This is very annoying as one of the good things about a trangia is the ability to carry fuel in it. Anyone who has contacted Trangia about this will have been told that they can leak and not to store fuel in them for transportation. I have cured mine by soldering the seam, I was a little concerned that this may damage the internal wick but upon testing found it to work fine if not slightly better (maybe due to air getting in dunno) and hey no leaks, now I can carry it around with fuel in with out that horrible taste in my food hurrah a great stove now even better.
Couldn't agree more. Dodgy late-production burners and the heavier-gauge aluminium used to make the pots in older Trangia sets is what ensures that the older ones get eagerly snapped up when they crop up for sale. Good for you for making the best of a bad job. John
Welcome to the forum . Back in the early 80's I bought 3 Trangia sets, two for myself and one set for my Brother in law. Used my sets all over the world and they were pretty battered. Sold both sets on Ebay earlier this year for over £30.00 (which is more than they cost when new). So the older sets definitely sell for a premium. I was round my Brother in Law's for Sunday lunch fairly recently and I told him that I wished I'd kept a set. He disappeared into his garage and after much crashing and swearing emerged with his set still in it's box. Apparently, just after I gave him his set, he inherited his uncle's newish caravan so never used the Trangia. So I'm now the owner of a new 80's set! Won't be pristine for long though as my son is taking it walking in the Brecons this weekend . Regards, Terry PS.. The reply by Trangia "that they can leak and not to store fuel in them for transportation" is ridiculous. The burner caps have an O ring in the top to seal the burner so that they can be transported with fuel in!!
It would be back in the early 80s that I got my first and only taste of whatever they put in meths to make it undrinkable. I hadn't put the burner back in its plastic bag before storing it in the T27's kettle for a walk up Helvellyn. Come lunch time and a stop beside red tarn to brew up we didn't notice that there had been a small leak (most of the fuel was still in the burner) until the taste overwhelmed the chicken cuppa soup that we were looking forward to. I think the cap had been fitted to a still hot burner some time previously and damaged the O-ring. That was the last time I carried it with fuel inside. It's usually possible to pour most of the excess back into the fuel bottle and then quickly burn off the residue. You just have to wait for it to cool down again before fitting the cap. regards John

If there is some residual alcohol in the spirit burner after cooking, can the alcohol be saved in the burner (with the lid closed) for the next day? The fuel can be stored inside the burner for the next day (or the next couple of days), provided that the lid is properly closed and the o-ring is undamaged. However, it is essential that the burner has cooled down completely before the lid is closed. Please note that the alcohol must not be stored in the burner for a longer period of time. The burner should not be packed down in the stove set during transport with fuel in the burner, it can leak! Well mine don't leak now Mr Trangia, maybe you might learn from this NOT
Never had a problem with any of mine... With the exception of the T28 the rest would be 80's I'm guessing. I thought part of what makes Trangias so good is the full burner thing? I always let mine cool right down before I put the lid back on then give it a good twist. So far so good......
