Welcome @Frank Rutten and what a great 1st stove! The box and sundries are a bonus too.

I’m stumped when it comes to putting a model number on your stove, though there is another example in the Stove Reference Gallery HERE. I’m inclined to think that the plastic pump knob on yours is not original though.

Hopefully someone will come along with more information.

Hi @Frank Rutten , Welcome to CCS. You have a nice stove outfit there. The case looks well thought out and made by a gifted amateur, rather than factory-made.

    Wooden Storage/Transport boxes?

I have a similar Barthel Juwel No.1 stove to yours, but fitted with a roarer burner. There are some comments on the lack of model numbers on Juwel stoves in the thread:

    Juwel No:1

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi, nice stove, most probably a later model. This could be identified as 1P.

@presscall the plastic pump knob is genuine, I have it on these stove variants with Barthel embossed around the riser.

Not sure about the brass knobs on the other examples of the gallery, those probably are replacements.

@presscall you’re welcome! Obviously I don’t have any catalog proving this, but, that exact pump knob, unusual, being on different barthel stoves I have and also on this example for me is proof of originality. A standard brass knob instead could be a very common replacement, considering that these plastic ones are more delicate and can crack and so replaced.

@Nicola Francesco Elia I was thinking of such British stoves as the Burmos #21 where earlier models had a brass pump knob and later ones plastic, the aesthetics of the brass pump knob being more pleasing - to my eye at least.

The Barthel is such an elegant stove, with the embossed lettering for example that the plastic knob jars, visually. Again, that’s to my eye.

Your reasoning is sound certainly and I’ve no doubt you’re right.

John I have two Primus no 3 from around 1954 that use a plastic knob (in the style of model 535) for the pump and the stoves are gorgeous like the older ones. A party of brass and cast iron... probably was the fashion of that time.
