I just got this from the UPS truck. It is the 2011 Jetboil Zip. I don't know when it first came out, but essentially it is the original model from previous years that has bee renamed. The 3 models for 2011 (1-person units): Jetboil Zip, $70, 11.75 oz Jetboil, $100, 10.5 oz Jetboil Titanium, $140, 8.5 oz This info is just off Jetboil's website--I actually got my Zip for $60 shipped. Other than the weight, the only drawback seems to be the deliberate exclusion of a pizeoelectric ignition. Irritating, but I can accept it for the cheaper price. I timed a 1/2 liter water boil (starting at room temperature), and it took 1 min 45 sec. (Just the first use--I'm not sure if I had the flame on full or not) The weight with the fuel and stand is 21 oz, but including a 4 oz can of butane. One 4-oz can of butane, according to the manual will boil 12 liters of water. Everything shown here packs into the cup, with exception of the protector, which fits on the bottom to guard the heat exchanger. This jetboil model includes an adapter to utilize as a conventional cooking stove. This is my first one and I'm not sure if the older models included this or not. But I was under the impression that criticisms of the previous models were that you could not cook with a skillet. With this setup it doesn't seem to be a problem, other than the flame being a little focused in the center. Of course for everything to fit in you have to buy the small fuel can. The 4 oz cans are $5/pop at the local outfitter store. The 8 oz cans are $6 (which are too big to fit). (this is the 4 season 20/80 mix) My next task is going to be to utilize the cheap asian butane cans (CP250's, I think) I got the original idea from here. But that might need to be a separate discussion. The small cans are expensive, but from the minimalist point of view this is the best setup I've seen. A little on the heavy side but super compact. Jetboil is a good setup to boil water, and perhaps heat up a meal Hope you get to work it where you could use the asian butane using the Kovea adaptor and the Brunton stove stand. Way cheaper than the MSR Reactor. Cheers Ron
I ordered a Brunton stand and a Kovea adapter. Hopefully this is going to get the cheap asian butane cans working on the jetboil, assuming the brunton stand is able to provide a stable enough support.
