Hello folks. Finally got round to joining CCS after using this amazing site to resurrect my late father's 111B from the '50s/early 60's, which appears to be a transitional model (details later, if anyone shows interest!) I've replaced the pips in the NRV & pressure relief valve, made a pip carrier & lead washer for the NRV, a new nitrile filler seal & fitted one of Sefaudi's beautiful cup washers. It runs reasonably well on paraffin/kerosine: I have a healthy respect for petrol/gasoline after being a standard pyromaniacal 12 year old some years ago (no eyelashes, eyebrows, brown smelly afro). It burns pretty well with no changes in jetting, but needs constant twiddling to keep the flame blue: The control knob is pretty twitchy- it's either dying, blue & roaring like concorde or yellow- in quarter of a turn. I'm happy with the state of the pip & seal in the filler cap- the PRV spring was a little corroded, but springy enough: Should I man up & run it on white gas or unleaded? Should I rejet & get a more controllable burn on kerosine? Only having the 2 pipe set up under the burner, I appreciate the preheating is a little marginal on kerosine. Should I look out for a 4pipe burner & swap them over to pander to my petroleum timidity? Any thoughts about gas/kero mixtures? Many thanks, all you Stovies. Matt
Welcome!!! You really don't need to modify your Petrol burning 111B, you just need another stove!! You need a 111, no B, no C. Just a plain 111! Then you'll be well onto the 'Road to Madness" Pics are nice too, you know...
Hi Gasmatt. Welcome to CCS. I am glad you got your Op.111B successfully fettled. I am surprised that you got it running on paraffin since they are very much optimised for Coleman fuel or petrol at a push... Have you seen this thread: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/8946 There are a few comments about the sensitivity of the Op.111B operation to jet aperture size. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thanks chaps. Suspect I shall man up, buy both a navy style flash mask & some Coleman fuel.... Seriously tempted to b*gger around with the jet though. Anyone have any recommendations? I've just primed the 111B case, will post photos once it's tickityboo. Cheers, Matt
Nooooo! Try aspen 4T (4 stroke ) or panel wipe, from your 'Motor Factor' Real Coleman is extremly spendy in the UK!
I have a 111 (not 111B). Can I or do I need to rejet this to burn white gas in it? I also have a spare 111B burner head and tank, but I would like to have the possibility to burn kerosene as well.
Hi, you should be able to burn white gas in your Op.111 with the kerosene jet fitted. The Op.111b will not burn kerosene satisfactorily with any jet as the burner has insufficient vaporising area to gasify kerosene before it passes through the jet. Best Regards, Kerophile.
I picked up a 111 (4 tube burner) off ebay recently, it was advertised as petrol/paraffin the guy selling it had been using it with parrafin but i did'nt have any only a bit of coleman fuel left to test it out and it works fine, nice blue flame. Its best to check the NRV is in good nick with white gas/unleaded petrol though i haven’t done this yet and will get some paraffin until ive resolved this due to the explosive nature of petrol vapour coming back up the pump.
