Not sure on the vintage of this one, but its an earlier model, embossed lid and the green metallic hammerite paint, not the later blue. Cost me $200NZD which is not too bad a price, rough ones can go for this.
Most certainly not! This one will be going in a display cabinet when Im ready. I never thought it would find one this age. Ive got another later one that had been used a couple of times but had a ton of rust. Im just trying to figure out what to do with this one. Its got the odd rust spot here and there and not sure what i should do to prevent it getting worse and/or touch them up.
Im pretty sure this is a MK1 too, so would this put this stove into 1950s? It has the spirit bottle with the little plastic nozzle that folds out.
Anyone else got a similar example? Ive not seen what the box looks like, but will add this to the reference gallery. It appears that the 22 is either uncommon or highly sought after overseas, here in New Zealand, they appear a rather common stove and have been reading some discussion about why the reasons on here. Im pretty sure this is a MK1, but not sure on the production date.
This one has a spot of rust on the top of the lid and two more underneath. They never had the best coat of paint from factory and the steel was never primed. I will spot treat the rust to stop it getting worse, but is in good original condition otherwise. I might be able to carefully touch up the rust spots with matching paint and an airbrush. If im not mistaken, this model will be pre 1963?
Great find! and a good example for the Reference Gallery. Is there a printer's stamp on the paperwork? Cheers Tony
@Nzoomed, Congrats on the steal of a deal on an excellent example. [edit 200NZ = approx 87 GBP, 102 euro, 117 USD wow!!! i presume you're in NZ found in NZ no NZ S&H ? ] we're lucky to have it added to the Reference Gallery. THANK YOU. Above you mention: "Im pretty sure this is a MK1 too, so would this put this stove into 1950s? It has the spirit bottle with the little plastic nozzle that folds out." In your other Gallery Reference post you mention: "My guess is it dates prior to 1963, but someone on here might know more." You've done your homework .your guess: "...prior to 1963..." not sure i can say more re year I DO have QUESTION: What is "a Mk1" , are you still with that? ... if yes, can you link to some background for that Mk1 Optimus 22 term? It is fair to mention a most obvious detail is re the grate: "re 1965 22: canetoad dates flower grate (w/thin knob) on 22 by '65 Optimus 22B 1965 " "...by '65" . My "guess" the grate change did take place in 65 or 64/65 but i dunno for sure (could be earlier is "my" impression). FWIW this '65 also still has logo w/globe embossed into case. your guess nor mine places yours with the 1st version 22 but FYI "The 22 was introduced around 1955, and manual no. 79 was then edited to also cover the 22 and the spirit can no. 69." ^^^ "79" refers to the 111 then the 111 & 22 Instructions publication #, at top of the page [no dates : ( ] . yours being unfired, your spirit bottle is most likely original. The 1st we see that 1st version, that exact No.69 tin is in 1957-58 Optimus Catalogue No:1700E (posted in '08). Similarly we have 1963 dated example: atop of burner is OPTIMUS SWEDEN and still has round hole burner (like yours), so as late as '63, could be later [but "D" hole burner was out "by 1966"]. search tag: " aktopp's dated 1963 Optimus No:111 - Norwegian military " ----- edit: and your " green metallic hammerite paint, not the later blue." ... interesting.
