This is my recently found Optimus #22B that I found hidden up in my attic when my family bought our house. I have had it running once and it is Sweeeeeet! :D/ I cant believe that the previous owner had just left it there... It even has the original manual and Optimus brand oil bottle! I also found two lanterns, a coleman model 220 and model 226 one with a striker and one without. (sorry if this is in the wrong section, im new  )

Hi - welcome to the forum.

This is the events & meets section. As soon as I've written this I will move the post to the Stove Forum.

You can't add pictures over 100kb - you shouldn't need to add pictures over 100kb for web viewing.

There is an online image optimiser on the site, linked on the top navbar, if you don't have your own software to optimise images for the web. I'll be glad to help if you are new to this.

If you'd like to post pictures of stoves we have a Stove Reference Gallery.

Cool thanks, I optimized some of my images so that they will fit. Here is one of the stove as it was running outside.

Beautiful gear to find. Awesome stove and the enamel on the lanterns look in impeccable shape. (BTW that's a 228 not 226)
My attic had nothing but hot air when I bought the house! I don't think a stove or lantern would fare well up there. It's been over 100F outside last few weeks.

Its been about 93 degrees this whole summer at max. I was super surprised when I found these up there. By the way so the lantern on the left is the 228 or on the right is the 228.
I also have a Thermos lantern with a broken one way valve in the pump... I still need to fix that and yet neither my dad nor I know how to solve that.

    Hi Xhentao,
The 228 is on the left. It's known as having a "Big Hat". Easy for you to tell, it's the one with the large top.
Great find! You are a VERY lucky fellow! I'd be over the moon if I "found" that stove in the attic!
    Best,
    Randy

There was a whole bunch of old tents and stuff up there, but these stood out the most so I dusted them off and tried em out. For a 14 yr. old, these stoves seem like one of the coolest things ever (especially the nois they make when they run  )

Hey guys, I have a problem now. When I turn the stove to Clean the cleaning needle pops out as it should. But when I turn it back to closed the stove remains open and will not cut so the only way for me to cut the stove was to turn it out all the way so that the cleaning needle blocks the fuel nozzle. what would be the potential problem here?

    Hello and welcome!

    What great finds!!!

Your problem with the Optimus is the needle isn't set right.

The cleaning needle rack is stopping the valve from closing. So in other words your needle is too high.

Check out this Post . For a Optimus 8r but same design idea.

    I hope that helps.

    Howdy, Xhentao,

Welcome to CSS, and congrats on your fun finds! That sort of thing is always a great thing and a blessing, indeed!

I assume you live in Pleasanton, CA, is that right? If so, it's too bad that you couldn't have come down to our recent CASG4, held at the Montana De Oro campground, South of Morro Bay, CA. We could have gone through your 22B, adjusted the cleaning needles properly, and changed out all of your rubber gaskets and seals for you!! When using this stove, or any such Swedish stove that was originally designed to burn only kerosene, then changed a little to burn Coleman fuel, it's VERY important that your seals and gaskets are brand new and up to spec. Otherwise, you run the risk of a huge leak, which can actually burn down your house, burn you, and injure others that are nearby!! Not trying to scare you, at all, but I caution you about using this stove until it has been properly gone through and brought up to spec. I have two of the 22B's, a 22, and a 22 Meths, and all of them had all their seals and gaskets replaced before I used them. It's the only safe thing to do.

If you want to give this a try, we can guide you as to how best to do it. Or, if you'd rather have someone do it that has done tons of them, you can send your stove to one of us, and we can bring it up to spec, and return it to you, all safe and ready to use. We do that all the time here at CCS, and you can trust us to do a good job for you, and to return your stove quickly. Ron lives in San Jose, or near there, so he's not too far from you, and might offer to do this for you. Or, I would be happy to do it for you, as I've done a ton of them and have all the proper parts on hand. In any case, please either do these tasks yourself, of have one of us do them for you. Using the stove without replacing these things, is dangerous, as the rubber hardens and then will fail, even if the stove hasn't been used much. A word to the wise.

We have now had four California Stove Gatherings, and two of them have been up your way. You and your family are welcome to join us at any future events, or just to get together with some of us for a Mini-Meet, where we work on stoves, and share some food, and enjoy hanging out together. In any case, welcome to CCS, and have fun using your stove! My wife and I LOVE our's, and we keep them ready to use, by replacing the seals and gaskets, when needed. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Thank for the advice. I will try to reset the needle myself first then If I have more problems I will ask away. I am assuming that the seals I have are new or almost new because of how fresh the rubber is. Is the rubber seal the proper type to use and can I use plain gasoline in this stove or would that kill it. Next time there is a gathering in my area I'd love to come. Yes I do live in Pleasanton... Boring old Pleasanton...

    Hi, Chris,

Sounds great. I'd recommend resetting the needle down between 4-5 clicks, as noted in the 8R post. Also, you must use Nitrile rubber for your seals, and also your NRV. The NRV will require a special tool, but you can also make one for yourself, if you feel like doing that. No matter how "fresh" the seals look, rubber ages, even if it's not been used, most of the time. So, especially with a petrol powered stove! One mistake, and you will be very sorry that you didn't change the lot of them whilst you could! Been there, done that, and I own that T-shirt!    8-[ 8-[  Your NRV is located down inside your pump tube, and must be removed from the tube to get to the part that needs replacing. Again, you can do this yourself, but my offer stands to do it for you, should you wish to avail yourself of it. Please use only Coleman fuel in your stove, as this is what it was really designed to use. The "petrol" that was noted for use in this stove is a far cry from what we have now-days, especially here in the US. We have WAY too many additives that play hob with stoves, lanterns, and other such appliances. Even with Coleman "Dual-Fuel" equipment, I would never use auto gas, unless it was a dire, and I mean DIRE emergency!!! Not worth the health risks, nor the possibility of gumming up your nice stove!! For what it's worth.....

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. CCS is the place to learn about your stove, and we want you to use it safely, so that you will definitely enjoy it, without any harm to yourself, or anyone else. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    Hi
The NRV (seal at the end of the pump tube)is one of the optimus ones with no brass shoe. A bit more difficult to replace than most Non return valves. If you try to replace it please do ask for advice here.

    Hey, Chris,

It's "Nitrile" rubber that you need, not "nitrate". You can find sheets of it and buy it online. Or, if you send me your mailing address, I'll send you a proper fuel cap gasket, which you can just install. You will have to remove the old gasket, first, of course. ;) 8) :D

As to the NRV, it, too, has to be made of Nitrile rubber, which will resist fuel contamination. I have the proper NRV's for that stove, but there were actually two different kinds. If you remove the actual NRV and send it to me, I'll rebuild it with the seal that fits it properly, and return it to you. That's the best way to do it. IF you mess up this part, it's not only dangerous, but can also cause you even more repair problems than you already have. Caution and care is the way to go, when it comes to a None Return Valve (NRV)! Let me know if I can help you, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc
