Found a box with 16 MSR IsoPro fuel cannisters in it, the 8 oz net weight kind - at a garage sale this past weekend. Got them for less than a buck a piece. Anyway, while doing some internet searching this evening, I found this webpage:

Frequently Asked Questions About Lightweight Canister Stoves and Fuels

Some interesting info there that others here might just find helpful.

I have procured half a dozen stoves that use the top threaded canisters for use of the Scouts in my troop. (Tr. 167, Brier Ward LDS, Yay!) I'm always on the lookout for fuel canisters. My local drugstore chain, Bartell's has had the Glowmaster brand blended fuel canisters on it's shelves for several years until this Summer. I asked the manager what hapenned, and he said, they hadn't sold enough of them to make it worth their while. I told him why I was curious and he had me follow him to the stockroom. There were two cases of the canisters sitting on the floor near the back door. He told me he was waiting for hazmat certification so he could put them in his dumpster as corporate didn't want to mess with them any longer. Tr. 167 is now the proud owner of enough fuel for camping for about 157 years.

I like the liquid fueled pressure stoves above all others, but for the kids, these things are really the bee's knees.

We have simular experience, we got both butane and propane.
The propane is more for base camp etc. (and we got it for free)
Still the scout-leaders try educate the scouts in using the Optimus 111.

We do have butane cannisters, and 2 kg (4 lbs) propanebottles for years.
