Hi folks (probably an Albert question!) Patient is recently a acquired Burmos 21 stove. Bottom end of pump, complete with foot valve, is rattling about in fount. Is the barrel simply soft-soldered into the hole in the fount, and therefore easy to remove and replace? Likewise, I assume the detached barrel end is soldered into the barrel, and of course I will remove the valve to avoid heat damage before I solder it back
Mike As far as I know all the pump tubes is lead and tin mix soldered in (this is a soft solder not silver solder). The bottom of the tube that the valve screws into is also the same solder These tubes goes in at an angle so take note what part is top of the tube before you start. This will make it easier to get all the solder on the tube matching the side of the tank. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Hi Albert Thanks for that - sounds fairly easy. I shall support it so the tube is vertical when I put it back, so the solder flows evenly round the joint. Will let you know when I give it a test brew-up! Might be a while yet.
Go for it this is the best way to learn. If you never do it you will never learn. The expearence can't be read from a book only the basics. The stove is no good the way it is. If you bugger it up send it to me I will fix it for you. Colin is correct try not to over heat it. Clean both serfaces and put a light coat of solder over both. Then wipe it with flux. Fit the tube in place and melt your solder in the joint. Don't try to put a lot of solder on this , for it will only fall inside any way Remember no body can gain this experiance before they do the first one
