Hi Dave Whoops, you are absolutely correct - I missed the subject change. And again you are absolutely correct that an Optimus 45/48 should not be fueld with White Gas/Colemen fuel. An almost guaranteed fireball waiting to occur. Kerosene only. Opti 45 is roarer, Opti 48 is silent. Not to say that an Opti 45 hasn't be retrofitted with a silent but that's the original configuration. Cheers, Graham.
Thanks Murph, I'm going to give the kerosene one more shot before I give up. I really want to use keorsene, but Coleman fuel wouldn't be bad. I probably have some out in the garage. Maybe I need to preheat some more. I reassembled the burner the way it's shown in the home built one. I had to reassemble the riser going to the regulator valve stem before I even thought of lighting my OP.45 account someone had put it together with the preheat cup upside down. Ken, So. Milwaukee
Hi Guy's, I've been away for a couple of weeks, so was gratified to see all the nice things said about Sefa and his cups. I've gone ahead and ordered some for the Kampkook and 425E. Thanks for the good tip. As a follow up question. I am expecting the packing nut (is this what it is called?) to leak at the control valve. I am assuming there was some kind of packing washer there originally. If there was, it was indistinguishable from the carbon from the generator and spring. I seem to remember a thread about making up a packing washer using string and graphite, but can't find it. Any suggestions on how to affect a seal at the control valve? Thanks, Perra Hunter
Hi Perra, you can use graphite tape also, should be able to find some kind of graphite packing material in the local plumbing department.
Hey Big BTU, wouldn't ya know it, but I read teletim's post about the graphite tape right before checking back on this post. Thank you, I'll check around for this stuff. Perra Hunter
