Hi all, I just picked up an aluminium Sigg-Tourist cookset with a SVEA 123R. The Sigg has seen some use and some steel wool thats for sure. I have a question regarding the tank of the SVEA, the solder job appears to be quite rough and i'm trying to work out if it was repaired at some stage or is this normal ? Upon testing the stove i also figured out (much to my chagrin) that the stove doesn't turn off... interesting experience when fuel keeps getting added to your preheating flame !! I think the pricker bottomed out before the needle valve fully closed ? I'm thinking to tighten the spindle nut (appears to be out a bit more than usual) and remove the pricker and just run the stove and see, does this sound like a good idea (before i lose an eyebrow) ? Hi Yes, A cleaning needle not adjusted correctly may stop the spindle to shout the stove off by turning the spindle to the right. Remove the cleaning needle and try it first by putting your 2 hands on the tank and check if any fuel came out from the jet, if not, you should try the stove to convince yourself that the problem was the cleaning needle not adjusted correctly . However If the fuel came out with you 2 hands on the tank, the problem could be with the spindle. Don't try it. For the spindle nut, if the fuel is not leaking by there, don't touch it.
I would do a dunk test first. Without the pricker, then with the pricker set right. You can remove the burner bell for the dunk test. With cap on and valve closed, dunk in hot water and watch for bubbles as the hot water increases the pressure in the tank. Hotter the better, and the longer the better. Also look at the bottom closely. A leak there can be very bad while the stove is running.
I have solved the stove not shutting off problem, i adjusted the pricker . I will do a hot water test too when i get some more time !! Thank you snwcmpr
