    Funny how sometimes you misjudge the scale of something. I expected this to be much bigger. HP bottle for scale. Sirram 'Wasp' car or picnic boiling set. The set appears complete although I suspect the yellow plastic lid should have a seal of some kind.

    Yes, your suspicions are correct:

    A rubber seal like you might find atop a Kilner or other preserving jar. 75mm OD, 5.5mm wide by 1.5mm thick or thereabouts

    @Dean thanks for the dimensions Dean, very useful as I have the equipment necessary to cut that myself.

    @Robert Radcliffe
    Do bear in mind that my washer is somewhat fossilised by 70 years or so of storage, so measurements are a bit imprecise - a guide only!
    Needless to say I have (what remains of) one of these kits - mine has a burner which has the lower tank part made of steel, and we all know the effect of methylated spirit on steel, which is probably also why my spirit can has long gone, to be replaced by a Marmite bottle. Love it or hate it, the jar lid is about the right colour. My kettle lid has a yellow knob as well. I think the later burners may have been all brass.

    The burner in this set is all brass Dean so you may well be correct.

    I've wanted one of those sets for a while. That definitely is smaller than I thought. Still want one though... :)

    Yes I've been looking for a good while. They are often listed at unrealistic prices for what they are but the seller gave a decent reduction on the asking price in this case.

    I've had one of those lying on my 'puter desk for years - maybe even a decade. :oops:

    Now I want it, naturally, I've cleared it away and I've no idea where it is... :doh: ](*,)

    Nice find, @Robert Radcliffe.

    My “Wasp” set (here) is a No. 42 and it is 1 3/4 pints. Yours, No. 44 is 2 1/4 pints.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Just turn off the volume of all sound generating equipment and make your way to the source of the angry buzzing sounds ....

    @Robert Radcliffe

    I hadn't appreciated that there were different models with different capacities. Mine and my dimensions of yesterday were for a no.42, woops!
    Hope I have not stirred up a hornet's nest.

    @Tony Press thanks for the link - an even smaller kettle!

    @Dean I doubt they'd have a different sized lid moulded for two kettles so similar in size but I'll measure it anyway. May not forgive you for the pun though. =;

    @Robert Radcliffe Sorry if my flippant use of language was too much. I shall try to bee more serious in future!

    Meanwhile, I was in a "what's in that box in the shed" mode just now and found this:
    on the shelf. Says it contains glass and is stamped "Sherry".
    P1260711.JPG A decanter, maybe? Nah!!!
    What's that written on the side?
    P1260713.JPG PICNIC KETTLE. That's more like me.
    Takes off the lid:

    Another wasp nesting in the shed! Very clean and shiny:
    P1260715.JPG
    Looks like it was never used
    P1260716.JPG P1260717.JPG
    Missing the screw on spout cap and spirit bottle. Note that this is another steel bodied burner model and there is no gasket in the yellow lid, either. Unlike most of my things, I don't even remember buying it, but it must have been an impulse buy from a car boot or similar.
    Same sized kettle as the (almost) boxed one
    P1260718.JPG which is marked as a 42. I shall put it away again now.

    @Dean you know you're a serious collector when you come across stuff you can't even remember buying. :lol::lol:
    Either that or David's missing set has spirited itself over to your shed.

    This is quite common with Sirram stuff - e.g. the little 'Redcap' series of cookset thingies.
    Sirram "Redcap" No. 1 | Classic Camp Stoves

    Nah, flippant (and humorous!) is just fine... :thumbup:

    Oi! - I resemble that remark! [-X :oops:

    I have managed to find a lonely Sirram 'Rambler' kettle/teapot - which I do remember buying because it came sitting on a nice cast-iron fondue set burner :oops: - that resembles your 'Wasp' ones except it is fitted with a rather superior metal lid as opposed to the yellow plastic variety. It also has a neat wooden handle. Probably an earlier version at a guess...

    It is rather superior, I'd have preferred that version David.
