I have been out looking for Panel Wipe as Coleman Fuel substitute. I managed to blag a small sample free from a spray shop. Thin is that I lost some because the seal on my Sigg fuel bottle had perished. I'm not a happy bunny but I need a 25mm 'O'ring or square-section oil seal as a substitute. But I only want one. What do you use? Go to a outdoor shop or a supplier of oil seals?
I would go to a hardware store and look for o-rings. My local ACE hardware has a set of drawers full of all manners of washers and o-rings available for purchase individually. I even found replacements for my trangia burners.
I don't know if this will work in the UK, but where I'm at in the States, I go to the local hydraulic equipment supply and repair house. They have a whole *room* full of bins stocked with o-rings. I've replaced Coleman o-rings, 111T pump o-rings, water filter o-rings, you name it. I usually just bring the part, they take it in hand, disappear for a while and come back with the exact ring. Last time I was there I got three 1" diameter nitrile rings for 25 cents. Your mileage may vary. Good luck! Cheers, Gary
Back in the day you could get spare washers for the Siggs - they needed changing after 3-4 years in my experience. They were flat profile rather than round. I don't have one to hand but they may have been a home punchable size.
Hi Primus 96 If you have no luck with O-rings, just send me the inside and outside diameters of the seal you need and I will make you one out of nitrile.
don't get me started on this one .when the rings on my old Siggs went bad i tryed the local outdoor shop..sorry no rings--how about a new cap for $$$$$---i wanted the real Sigg flat rings but went the hardware O ring drawers route..i layed the bottles on their sides with fuel in them for a few days to make sure they were leak proof..
My local outdoor shop was a dead loss, you would think that they would have a few spare washers, but no. I will have to have a trawl through the local Yellow pages & see who does oil seals & hydraulic repairs.
I have used Sigg bottles for more decades than I care to remember and exact replacements - that is with the flat washer – you can get from an Optimus Nova spares kit – but that is expensive! What I have used is the O rings that fit the MSR fuel bottles, they cost 50p from Needle Sports, post free. If you lose your Sigg cap you can use an MSR bottle cap and Needle Sports sell them with washer included for £1.99. http://www.needlesports.com/acatalog/index.html Once you get to the Needle Sports website just type in MSR fuel bottle and then scroll down until you find the item.
you need O-ring for thread 3/4 NPT have a look on pneumatics dealers, material NBR(nitrile rubber) I am taking NBR 3/4 o-rings from Festo www.festo.com difference between G3/4 NPT and fuel bottle thread diameters is only 0.6mm
I understand that you can still get Sigg washers, but you might have to find "out of the way" shops who carry old stock. I'm sure mine came on a card . . .as to whether they are fuel proof
