Hey, good deal! I've still got a 425 I got back in '73, looks like cr*p, runs great !
Have fun with the fettle !
Get a replacement tank cap tho...that old style 3 piece cap is dangerous

Hey Steve! Thanks for the tip on the cap! I have a homeless tank and generator that showed up at the chemical recycling place, much newer, but might fit. It's so new it has the high tech plastic parts on the pump cap. I also have the dual fuel tank from the tornado stove that I haven't tested yet.... doomed...... doomed.... :-)

EDIT- HEY! Anyone in Denver needing a Coleman suitcase! This place still has a newer ( than the one I got ) 424 or 425 type stove (small 2 burner) and a 413G. She sells them very reasonable, as you can see. If you need a suitcase Coleman, just PT me, and I'll tell you where it's located!
    Best,
    Randy

Edit no.2...Oh, and I didn't have a Coleman this size all in one piece yet..... so, I needed it, right? ...... Doomed!!!

Is that also true of the lanterns, Steve? - I've got several fitted with that kind of filler cap... 8-[

    Hi David.
The three piece cap is only dangerous if you are silly enough to crack it open when pressurized... and near an open flame, or when the stove/lantern is burning.
The petrol will tend to spray up thru the screw hole. The newer style caps are one piece and if opened, will spray down.
I think it would be good to mention at this juncture, that opening any gasoline/petrol appliance while its burning or near a fire is a very dumb thing ?
If you or anyone else in Britland needs some replacement caps, let me know. They're about $ 3 per
What I do is leave on the original caps for display, and change to a modern one to use. Also, there are two sizes of caps, but alas, there are no one piece caps for the smaller type.

LOL!! It's hard to resist, isn't it? How would you take the rust off of the "stainless" latch? When I did electrolysis on an old KampKook, everything turned a dark color, so, I am thinking something else for the latch?

stainless wouldn't rust like that, as para said, but that looks very similar to a boat locker latch produced by a US company called Perko, who manufacture all sorts of boaty hardware.. just checked. Perko don't list them any more, but I'd check your nearest marine store, or cabinet makers supply shop...

    Thanks Tritonofnor,
Old Coleman suitcases over here are "cheap as chips", (especially in this area, apparently) so I don't think I'll be drilling out the rivets and remounting a latch on this old soldier. My first Coleman suitcase stove was thrown away!! Works fine, only needed a pump leather. The latch would probably cost me more than the stove. I have a lantern that cost me a dollar, and the globe cost me 7 dollars.....
Could be worse, after all, couldn't it?

The black knob alone is worth about 5 bucks to someone who is missing one. 1.50? I would have bought it too!

I just try to clean the latches up so they don't rust anymore when I paint, these stoves aren't worth "frame off" restorations. And sometimes matching the particular vintage of Coleman green can be tough but as long as old man rust is dead I call it good enough.

Make yourself feel better, go to Wally World and price a new dual burner and a new double mantle lantern. I drag my wife down that isle once in a while to show her how much money I'm saving on stoves I'll never use

Use some hi-temp grill paint.Who really cares what color it is. The worse it look the lesser chance of someone stealing it at the campground..

Hadn't thought to post it till bbstacker posted, but I tried the much newer red tank that I have extra. It fit right in the slots and the generator looks the same. Didn't test it yet. I have a can of "John Deere" Green too, so I might just hit the rust with a "rust buster" type product and give it an over coat to pretty it up. Like Mike said, they aren't worth heavy restoration. I went to the flea market a couple of weeks ago and there were several of them for 5 each and one at a yard sale along the way....
bb- When we go camping we go into National Forest land where the camping is free. Try to get away from other people and I sure don't want to pay for "camping".

Matukat, I want to come on up to where you live and be your shadow for a few days! Where i live, even coleman suitcase stoves are a rare find. I have never seen a SVEA123 or any other stove for that matter. unfortunately this part of the year, there are no flea markets and no yard sales.... so i sit here and dream of spring.

    Ah Suprz,
If I remember, you haven't any drop and swap program either. This may help you, but I can't say for sure-

    http://www.searchallcraigs.com/

We have had unseasonably warm weather this year, so the flea market was open and some church was having a yard sale on the road I took to get there. I wouldn't have gone to the flea market, but Lance happened to be in town and we met up there.
Perhaps there are more boat stoves being traded in your part of the world? Didn't we figure out that you have lots of fishing all over your state? :-k :-k
