new member, first post, long-time backpack stove user (first camping trips in the 60s') i knew there was a problem when i counted the number of stoves in my garage. some i use for hiking, some for bicycling, some for truck camping, and some for emergency preparedness (we're in hurricane country). i came up with one Coleman 533, one SVEA 123R (newest), four homebrew (two penny alcohol stoves, two 'whitebox' types), two Vargo alcohol stoves, and one MSR DragonFly (most displeased with this one, btw, but that's another story) i most regret selling an old green Sportster 433 and Baby Enders nearly eight years ago. I recently sold off an inexpensive, no-name import propane - but i most regret selling the Enders. Bought for $25 at REI in Berkeley, Calif. in the late 70s, it never failed to bring a pot to a boil. i really, really like my new 123R - it will be going out to the fishing pier to make lunch throughout the year - my homebrew alcohol stoves are used for cycling trips on the local 80-mile bike trail. but in my mind, the question remains: How many stoves are enough? :-)
Hi linux_author & welcome to the forum. Spend some time around here & you will quickly learn that you can never have enough stoves! I can empathise with the regret of passing on the Enders but am sure the 123R will prove it's worth.
hi there Linux _author welcome to the forum in answer to your question i always need just one more than i already have, until that one more get's here then i need one more again seems to be a never ending cycle Bill
Oxymoron! In the rather restricted world in which you pose your question, you are not allowed to use the words "stoves" and "enough" in the same sentence. Gordon
I thought of asking my wife that question but she would have just looked at me, rolled her eyes and gone back upstairs mumbling some thing about,How many pipes? How many tents? How many camo outfits? I ask, "How much room do you have in your garage and is there room to add on?"
welcome!!--enought stoves? have you seen the collections here?..i'm just an enthusiast but i seem to have a stove for every type of meal, weather, time of year,hike,bike,canoe--so on..
I think a better question is... how many stoves are there? I think this site should buy stock in kerosene fuel and white gas companes. :o Cheers, Jeff
Hi What you need to do is get one of every type of stove there is, easy job done. But A better example comes along or one in its box and you have to have it. Get out now before you are totally lost.
Enough stoves? I have never thought about this subject in that context. Rather i have examined it in the perspective of, do i have enough to cover all eventualities which may arise such that myself and wifey and two or three neighbours can survive the event to which we are subjected. To that end i have a problem in, not do i have enough stoves but rather, do i have enough to handle all the situtations which may arise. Having examined the subject in that light the next question is not do i have enough stoves but rather, do i have enough fuel for the stoves i have to see us through. To that end i have determened that i now need a 700 gallon storage tank for White Gasoline and a 500 gallon tank for K-1 Kerosene. Plus two 200 gallon tanks for everyday ready use. Day tanks, in the venacular of sea going types. That should just about see me through a weekend of rough weather. lance
