This one is going to the top of my pile of regular 'users' coupled with a heating device. Comes with one piece silent cap & roarer burner plate for the adjustable burner. The spiritcup can be used conventionally but includes a lighter-gas powered pre-heater with piezo ignition which slots into the vented spiritcup for easy priming - very neat! The stove also features a fuel gauge. The legs lock in place using a lug that slots into the leg holder. This is a fierce one!
Now that is quite a stove. Piezo ignition? Really? How old is the stove? It looks like perhaps of 60's origin? That's really very sophisticated for the period. A very nice stove indeed.

A very nice stove indeed. Ross, in looking at the ignition system a second time, I wonder if that isn't an arc ignition rather than piezo-electric. With two points like that, it rather seems that electricity would arc from one point to another, igniting the fuel. I'm not an electrical engineer. This is just a thought based on the apparent age of the device and its visual appearance.
Thanks Jim - until your post I never thought. I assumed! It definetly arcs. I don't think it takes batteries - something else I need to check. Not sure on the age but it wouldn't suprise me if this was as late as 1980's.
Piezio can have two electrodes, that way it can be used while detached from the stove. One pin is hot, the other is the return. One electrode types must be attached to the metal stove, so as to have a ground return path. Probably an early version, judging by the largish size of it...
Well, whether arc vs. piezo or 80's vs. 60's, it's a beautiful stove. As much as I love the European stoves, I think this one is special, and in particular I thank you for introducing us to Hyup Seung Precision Co's products. I had never heard of them before this, but obviously a manufacturer worth noting. The quality seems to be high.

Piëzo ignition, like most ignitions to ignite gaseous combustibles, IS by arc. It only indicates the energy source - in this case by deforming a mineral, as opposed to magnet - or battery/coil ignition for instance. The principle of Piëzo allows a very compact lay-out like in cigarette lighters. I am very much impressed with this stove! Appearantly the Koreans combine the japanese trait for improvement with the american desire for comfort here. Really a gizmo that tempts me to acquire one, as I think it is the pinnacle in paraffin stovedom! Thank you Ross for sharing. Regards, Mike
