How do you install the lead washer on a Primus 96?

Kinda of a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure out how to install the washer. I removed the old one which was kinda stuck inside, doing so required me to bend the old one out. The new lead washer I got from Base Camp sits on top but if I push it down to go inside I feel I'm going to easily bend it to one side forcing it in. Is there a way to properly install the washer onto the tank?

    Thanks

Nevermind. I figured it out but still have a problem. Even with the new lead washer, some fuel gathers around the vaporizer tube as the 96 heats up. Right where the two threads meet is where some fuel gathers. I don't know what can be causing this as I just replaced the washer with a brand new one. Any other ideas?

If its the correct size, it should just drop in. Sounds like it's oversize?

Hi mpr. If the new washer has seated properly and you have tightened the lipstick sufficiently, but not too much, the joint should be tight.
You could try another one-quarter turn maximum to see if the joint is "snug".

If that doesn't work look for other possible leak paths, but short of a crack in the braze joint, which attaches the lipstick to its base-nut, it is difficult to see where liquid fuel can be coming from.
    How about some photos?

For future reference, if a lead washer has "spread" a bit on punching and is slightly too big for its seating you can easily shave off some of the metal with a sharp knife or similar, until it fits. Once in place and tightened up, the lead washer takes up its own form to fit the seating and joint.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hey mpr, I had the same problem with the old washer on my Optimus 00 a week ago and some suggestions by CCS members prompted me to make my own rather than placing an order. It was a success realy as I just had to be patient in making it round. Looks like the washer you got was oversize or squished from punching (as mentioned by CCS members) hence it became a tad larger. If you will see my post, my lead washer was a rough finish but went into the burner without a hitch and when I tightened it, the lead just followed the lip of the tank and smoothened out. No more leak.

It took a lead washer off a 96 once, but I wouldn't do it again, just stick the new one on top.
