Hydro451, I need to check Ace Hardwares around here. I've been testing 7 Coleman stoves the last couple of weekends with Canned Coleman Fuel that is either from 2001 or 1996 - I don't remember which girlfriend I was with at the time. I've been using propane & Pepsi can stoves in the meanwhile. I ran it through the screened funnel and then coffee filter. Seemed okay - I think the crud was what fell from the exterior of the rusty can. They all burned clean once the burners were brushed clean.
Hi Ted and welcome. I have this same stove and have both generators. The Kerosene generator has never been used and the valve body is a gun metal blue instead of a bright silver as in the gasoline generator. And just for good measure, it has a big "K" on the body opposite of the control knob. My stove is a 550A, so it might be different. Hope this helps. Matt
hydro451 -- the Wilco station on Hillsborough in Durham sells clear kero at the pump for $4/gal. Maybe worth stopping when you are out this way. Best to buy it in the winter when there is more turnover, over the summer I noticed it gets a bit yellow.
itchy, Thanks, didn't know it was legal to sell clear K-1 out of the pump in NC ? But who cares uh ? If there selling I'm buying. I'm in Durham often so I'll get some for sure, thanks again Tom
Greetings, Friends, We've just returned from a two week out-of-town gig, and are glad to be home, once again. My Brother, who always house-sits for us, is already on his way back to his own place. On our trip, as I mentioned in another thread here, I scored a couple of Coleman kero generators for the 550B multifuel stove. Paid $4.95 each for them, and was very happy to have found them, too! I will post photos of them a little later, as they have a shiny nut, with, it appears, no notch on them. I have to unload the trailer today, and after that, will try to compare these two kero generators, to others that I have on hand. Then, I'll report back my findings. But, if memory serves, Coleman made several versions of the kero generator, and not all of them looked alike. For what it's worth.... Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
