Hi, it has been recognised for several years that the best compact pan set for a Svea 123 stove, is best "borrowed" from a Globe Trotter 270: Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi Kerophile Agreed. I bought one of these on Ebay.Uk some months ago. New in a box. Never used. Great Setup and not too heavy. Quite cheap too,if I remember right. I think there were 2ea. for sale back then. Regards
Hi Jens, I think these stoves have been discontinued for some time. I bought two or three about 4 years ago, on Ebay, and think the ones I purchased might have been intended for the Japanese market as they have an additional instructions on a keychain-type metal tag. The designer should get a prize for the most compact Svea 123 pan-set yet made! Best Regards, George.
I'd say that the original Globe Trotter panset is a better bet for use with a 123, rather than the one you have posted. The original pans have lugs on the outside and are lifted with a bent wire panlifter which lies flat in the bottom pan and the stove sits on top of it. Alternatively, the 123's panlifter can be used to lift the GT pots. Not so the case with the GT270 pans which do not have the lugs and require a Trangia-type panlifter which is a bulky item which won't, IIRC, fit in the panset with the 123. Also the lugs on the original GT panset serve as guides for the strap, obviating the need for the tacky rubber threads in the GT270 strap which are to prevent the strap slipping off the packed setup. Check out the original (& best!):
I have a GT set (does not say 270 thou) that I'm willing to send to anybody willing to pay postage + 3% (PayPal fees)...preferred to Europe where fuel cells maybe still available...couldn't find any in the USA. The box and instruction sheet are a bit tattered, the stove itself looks to be never used, the pots a bit scratched and the strap frayed. No pot handle thou. Still, fits a SVEA 123 nicely. b-gin
well how about that --i had mine out today also for a post about freeze dry pork chop stew i'm putting together..the Gaz kit can be see in the upper right corner of this shot..i was fooling around with a couple cook kits so the Gaz one did not get center stage-
My preferred walkin' rig is the 123 in GT pots but I also take the excellent Trangia fry pan to complete the set......I dont get out enough.....
As far as I know the modern pan sets are still available. I picked up one from Milletts called a Twister Kit. It had no grip handle but had a Twister stove with it and was on sale for £5. At the time I bought it for the stove as I wanted something that would take gas cylinders in France & Switzerland. Now I have my 123R I am very pleased I got it. New Twister Kits are about £20 I think. Retro Camper
i have both the twister and the globetrotter the twister is the better bit of kit if you ask me the pans are bigger 750ml instead of 500ml one of the twister pans has graduations on it which i like and also the twister cookset can be used as a double boiler twister set on the left
I bought a used 123R w/o cup several years ago and after trying many cook sets unsatisfactorily I found a Coleman anodized cook set. It comes as a 4pc set, but w/ 123R you can only use the 3-largest cups. After more than a year toting this configuration I think that I am fairly happy with it. I have spent far more on rigs and been less happy because of my desire to have a snug fit that didn't clunk around. I wrap the ends of the SVEA in scraps of denim which give it a snug fit and protect both anodized finish and brass. AR
Thank you very much for the pictures comparing the two pot sets. I know some time has past since you posted those informative pictures, but do you know of any retailers that will ship either of the two pot sets to US customers? I only know of ebay as a source. I appreciate any time you take to review or reply to this post.

I appreciate your help. Neither of the retailers have the US in their shipping options on their website, but I have written them both to see if either of them would. I will let you know if anything pans out. Thanks again, I wasn't expecting such an immediate reply.
I keep hearing good things about the Primus Eta Express pot as being a good one for the Svea 123. Anyone with experience with this set up care to comment? I haven't unfortunately been able to find a any Eta Express pots for sale here in the US -- unless I want to buy the whole stove ensemble. HJ
I found the following sites offering them, and the first one claims the pots are on sale: http://www.campinggeardepot.com/store-products-P-734110-Primus-EtaExpress-Pot-10L_41627731.html the second still looks like a work in progress: http://www.modernoutpost.com/gear/house.html JoeyG
Hi, Joey, How are things in the Ft. Hood area? That sure takes me back ... to about 1983. The price on Modern Outpost is reasonable, but I don't know that the site is operational. I tried several times to buy the pot, but nothing is showing up in the shopping cart. The campinggeardepot price is a little high. REI carries Eta Power pots for $35.00, but unfortunately they don't carry the 1L size. THANK YOU for both suggestions. HJ P.S. I called the phone number for Modern Outpost. They are a going concern, but they do have some website problems. They're in Canada, but they do ship to the US.
JH, You wouldn't recognize the area out side of Ft Hood now. It's a city that grows exponentially between my deployments. I hope you find the deal you are looking for. You will have to post a few pictures of the stove and pot fit. JoeyG
Hi, Joey, I was also stationed in 1985 in a little out of the way place called Ft. Huachuca, AZ. It's not so sleepy anymore. I guess army towns have a momentum all their own? I didn't go for it from the Canadian website. With the shipping, the price was a bit more than what I was hoping for. If I do go for it, I will post photos. HJ
