Is the body made of brass or tin? Nice looking one. What is the diameter of the body and will it fit or accept Trangia alcohol burner? Ron
Good question, I did a quick test: Yes, the Trangia burner fits “plug and play”! The Trangia is a bit lower in height but has the same diameter. As you see the stove is not brass :-)
Yours is in much better condition than mine. When I was a lad these were ten a penny but are harder to find now in good condition. They actually work very well as a kettle boiler.
I wish they would have made it in brass. Then that would last longer. You say ten a penny? Hmmm put me down for 20 of that please
A kettle boiler or for a fry-up. We used to have a pair, back in the 1980's. I got a Handiware with the red lid for old times sake, although that isn't exactly what we had. Ours were once lacquered, said coating burning away rather quickly. They are not plated against rust, they were expendable. I will try the two Trangia burners I have, but they appear to be of slightly larger diameter than the red lid Handiware picnic stove burner.
The Handiware seems to be more expensive than the very dirt-cheap Express - paid similar to £1½ for my late copper-colour laquer Express a couple of years ago and guess it was cheaper new but there are people asking for 4 times that price today.
