I've just got back from a S24O (sub 24 hour overnight) bicycle trip with my Hunter. cooking this morning was a chore, as the wind was feisty. Been tinkering and came up with some pretty basic solution: multiple layered tinfoil surrounds. The rear allows the rectangular pot to still be placed in the center of its length, and the side wings extend upward along its sides. I also lined the sides and base of the case with foil for greater heat radiance. The question I have is this: should there be an air gap between the side wings and the side of the pot? The burner got as red as I've ever seen it and I was concerned that maybe I was overheating the reservoir, but seemed to solve that by turning it down (duh). does anyone else have more elegant windscreens for a hunter?
Looking at your set up I would think the heat is concentrated to that area with the pot on top and am not surprised your burner would really get red hot. Yes, there is a winscreen design for a hunter actually somewhere in the forum. It does come with the older versions, no longer being produce but can be fabricated. I has vent slots in it. Since am using my phone, cant really look it up. Ron
Hi Kelt I like your idea of foil surrounds. These could be folded up and used many times. I will give your idea a go but I think I will introduce some ventilation holes.
it might be worth making another flap in front of the tank and heatshield to stop the tank from getting to hot
thanks gentlemen. I'll try hunting for the windscreen, but currently this fits the bill, though I will upgrade the foil to some ultra-super heavy duty stuff. It folds down inside just fine, and with a foil straw for pouring fluid down to the saucer I can leave the pot stands in place. Just enough space inside for the Key, Waterproof matchsafe, the straw and a tiny bottle of fuel. When I leave on a S24O I fill the tank and generally take a thermos of hot food for dinner, so the tank and little bottle of fluid is enouh for tea at night, then porridge (precooked, just add a little more water)and tea in the morning. I might add a few vents, but plan to play..uh, research the options of folding down the sides a bit, or just opening up the whole thing a little. Looks are not important in this case, so I might use some heavy-duty aluminum duct-tape to secure the foil where it meets the edge of the case, thus preventing lift-off when I open the case.

Thank you! it's too late tonight to go find a piece of sheet aluminum, but when I do..one of my employers has a CNC Plasma table... draw it out and watch the pretty..oh no DON'T watch the pretty light. I'll get one made then offer for sale if people want them. Holes too, no accidental explosions here.
Thanks, but it's just tinfoil. Never had nor used a mini or midi pump. What benefits do they give? I'm out of space in the case, so it would have to fit in the little gap between the closed case and the wall of the billy I keep it in.
I have a roll of 1.25" galvanized banding material that will make a windscreen just about like the one in the link. Been meaning to do that for some months and other things just keep getting in the way. Just have to make some sort of 180 degree bend at each end to attach to the pot support near the fuel tank, map out and drill a few holes and should be just like the one on the clone. If you fellows want a foot or so, let me know and I'll whack some off for you. It'll take about 15"+/- for an 8R. Let me know and I can buy some of those padded envelopes and send it via the US Mail. Won't be more that $50.00 each...closer to $3 or $4 with envelope and postage. I probably have 150'...the roll weighs about 50 lbs and am just estimating how many feet. Anyway, I have enough for my two 8r's and 111's. No, I haven't made one and have no pictures...other than in my mind. Or you can get a ready-roll from Kelt made out of aluminiumiumium. The pump cap replaces the standard filer cap. The mini pump is small; fits nicely into the case normally. The mini pump is just a temporary external pump. Handy for colder months and getting the stove up to pressure faster. It can also add a bit more btu performance. Check out this post https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/12489 Jeff
A 22mm end cap riveted in the corner of the 8R case makes a neat stowage for the mini pump: with room for a windshield around it.
Ian you never fail to amaze me. More times than i'd care to imagine you have come up with a most pratical fix for a seemly near impossible problem, that of having more gear than space to stow it. Cheers lance

Yes, one and the same. Ordered the midi (supposedly with an angled pump) but I guess their midi now is straight just like the mini. Ron
Ron is right. Same but different The mini or straight pump was the first design. To use with the 123, 99 and 8r. The angled pump came out later. Both are called the mini and have the same part no. Go Optimus ! Jeff
