I am thinking about making a special set of short legs for my 1/2pt burner for use with the classic Swedish Military Trangia set. I think by using the shorter legs and letting the burner basket extend into the wind screen, a person will get better heat transfer. I am thinking of it as the Sigg Tourist. Extend the pot supports the way you normally would but set it on top of your classic stove. If you have an old second hand stove without a tin, it now has its own new home. Here is a rough sketch. I tried adding this into a topic yesterday, but muffed it... I think. Enjoy, AR
Hi Anlrolfe I'm sure that someone has already tried this, and I believe successfully....just can't remember where I saw the picture. Does anyone else recall seeing this? (I'm so tempted to try and get a set of custom legs for my 96 as well, now). Cheers
Hi Ian, you are correct. Check out the 111T post in this thread. He didn't make the set-up but he had copied a photo: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/5451 Drop me a PM if you are serious about a short-leg transplant. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi AR, To save you a smelly time here's some experience from when I modded one of my Swedish mil kits to use my Borde. The green paint on the pans seems to be fine with the standard issue spirit burner. However it doesn't stand up to the heat of a more powerful flame such as the Borde I used and nor would it, I suspect, stand up to the flame from a 96. The paint severely bubbled and stank to high heaven. Therefore I stripped the paint off mine and think they look better for it anyway. BTW mine is the stainless steel version. I would assume it's the same with the aluminium (or however you guys spell it ) version. Make sure you post the pics when you're done. Cheers, Graham.
i can't see why it wouldn't work but i reckon it could be a bit top heavy and unstable/tippy if the milkit is just sitting on top of the 96 legs. some sort of pan ring might be a good idea but you'd definitely need a good flat base to site the 96 on or dinner might end up on the floor or worse still over you
I removed the paint from mine but lighting a fire in the wind guard. It looks cool but I must say it was the worst stove I ever came across, yes it is slow but that was not the problem, it was the taste of meths in everything I cooked. This taste got in during cooking and was not caused by storing the burner in the pot. I know many people love this stove but I am not one of them... https://classiccampstoves.com/posts/82957
