Has anyone had trouble with Optimus Nova fuel filters? I have a new Nova(4-firings)that I was not able to get reliable consistent fuel flow(kero) through until I removed the fuel filter. Any insight or suggestions? AR
I don't have a problem with that in the least. None of my old-timers have a filter. The "bee in my bonnet" is that it was designed this way, I paid for it and it should work well seeing that it carries the Optimus name. I either want a less expensive sale price or a filter that works. Thanks for the on the filter AR
they do clag up quick i found mine pulsed with out the filter though and was going to get a bit of brass gauze and roll my own but it's tiny so might be tricky
Ditto .. PMT (above) I reckon there more a fuel flow restrictor than a filter. reckon a pipe cleaner stuffed uo the tube might work ... I'd give it a try , but I gave away my Nova. Nick
I have some tight wool felt. I think I'll give it a try. Many funnels used to use a felt disk as a filter and to absorb moisture.... this could be trouble if cold temp?? AR
Hello, Optimus claims it is a fuel filter and the stove can run without it but will flare with some fuels. It seems to be a design flaw. I will see if I can adapt a chainsaw fuel filter. Jeff
Not had a problem with one of mine thats been without a filter and used? That said I tend to use an Omnifuel if I need a remote canister stove these days. Did my xmas wish list for the kids, it includes an ETA multi fuel I think I know what my main prezzie is but can't say, my son lurks here a lot
i reckon if you could get a spare fuel filter from an MSR dragonfly/xgx ex and replace the nova one with that it would be better as it has a lot more surface area and shouldn't clag so easily, i haven't tried it as i don't have a spare msr one but if i knew where to order one i would (assuming they take paypal)
Problem solved!!.... kind-a. Still P'ed at "O" I cut a piece of felt about 2mm x 6mm rolled it up and inserted it in place of the filter. Flow was great, power was great and the oscillation/pulsing that Parra mentioned subsided. Don't those Swedes still have plenty of sheep on the hillsides. Ma-a-a-a-ay be I'm on to something? Gotta love a "low-tech" solution! Happier, AR
Hey, AR, Great solution! Sometimes, it's the simple things that turn out to be the best, eh?! I'll file this way, just in case either of my two Nova ever develop this problem. One question, if I may? Was your stove marketed/made by Optimus, or by Brunton? My second Nova was marketed by Brunton, and though I don't know if they actually made the stove, under license to Optimus, or not. In NZ we just go to a camping store and they order them from the importer, should be the same in the UK.
Doc it is a full blown green Optimus not an orange Brunton. Not sure if they use exactly the same parts or if they are "designed to spec" All the best, AR
Cigaretter buts work ok. I get one off a rollyour owner. The super slim size would probably work. Stuff it in the hose at the spindle seat end. That will stop the pulsing also. When It clogs up it will drive you nutso it you remember you got a fileter in that end. Probably after you have cleaned everything else first. Don't ask...
