Hi I am just drinking a coffee which I made on my latest stove. Pre 1911 primus number 5 Patent I have dipped it in citric acid and given it a (very) light polish. I has been burning with a lot of orange and I can't get the burner off to clean it. Rather than force it I have put carb cleaner in the tank and let it trickle through. It has made a big difference so far but I think the stove may also have miss matched burner caps. What has me puzzled is the threaded pot stand. Why threaded? Does it have a purpose? Is it home made? I am leaning towards it being factory made but I don't really know. It is also longer in reach than the other 2 legs but seems to be kinked the same at the base. What do you folk think? If someone made this at home it guess they may have just left the threaded part on for some extra length. It does look like different curves but it may be the same curves just squashed a little too.
what kind of washers r used on either side of the spirit cup?...i run my #5 w the cup up off the tank...the lower placement: allow better priming?...mine burns orange until i put a pot on and then burns totally blue...small leak in riser/vaporizing tube?...k-chunk

hey K-chunk , The spirit cup on some OLD Primus stoves is atop the tank .. where as on later stoves its between the riser & burner . This stove is around 100 years old Nick
After close inspection of all the legs (How did I miss this the first time?) they are all slightly different and therefore must be home made. On to my next problem... I am pretty sure the burner cap I have on this stove is too short and actually touches the pipe in the burner head. Do they make these with different heights? The pipe also sticks out well above the inner cap. Will try some others when I get my stoves out of storage. Dan
