GSR = Wallpaper paste plus citric acid This may be obvious to all but it worked for me so I thought I'd share it. I needed to use some 'GSR' on a recent fettle but couldn't find any wallpaper paste. Not wanting to delay the cleaning while I went to get some I had a lateral think about it and came up with an alternative: flour. I mixed flour, citric acid and a little water to a stiff paste, brushed it on, left it for a few minutes, and it worked like magic Cheers, John
Hi John, you have just re-invented the wheel! Before cellulose wallpaper paste became available, in the 1950s, decorators used flour/water pastes for wallpaper-hanging. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi All, Flour is really just basically cellulose anyway, so a perfect fit - I did this same thing with vinegar a while back . I had no wall paper paste but plenty of flour and said to myself that flour is cellulose so try it - worked fine Tom
Its the basis for Sourdough Bread too !! After years of experimentation, I'm getting close (sort of) to making a decent Sourdough bread...
