GSR = Wallpaper paste plus citric acid

This may be obvious to all but it worked for me so I thought I'd share it.

I needed to use some 'GSR' on a recent fettle but couldn't find any wallpaper paste. Not wanting to delay the cleaning while I went to get some I had a lateral think about it and came up with an alternative: flour.

I mixed flour, citric acid and a little water to a stiff paste, brushed it on, left it for a few minutes, and it worked like magic :)

    Cheers,
    John

Hi John, you have just re-invented the wheel!
Before cellulose wallpaper paste became available, in the 1950s, decorators used flour/water pastes for wallpaper-hanging.
    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Hi All,

Flour is really just basically cellulose anyway, so a perfect fit - I did this same thing with vinegar a while back . I had no wall paper paste but plenty of flour and said to myself that flour is cellulose so try it - worked fine

Add salt or Plaster of Paris and you have paste too.

Its the basis for Sourdough Bread too !!
After years of experimentation, I'm getting close (sort of) to making a decent Sourdough bread...
