The Valor 55 I'm presently working on has a steel wind shield similar to the sprung one pictured in this excellent post: Link I presume mine would also have originally had a gold finish but this rusted away long ago. It's presently in the electrolysis bath but what finish should I give it? Is a high-temperature gold/brass/bronze paint available or what about plating - feasible for DIY? I already have a Valor 55 as a 'user' stove so would like to return this one as close to the original condition as possible. When I post the 'before' pictures of this restoration (hinted at by the one of the prickers I posted recently) you'll understand why I'm probably more driven with this fettle than usual Cheers, John
Yes, I see what you mean as per this post: Link although if that really is the original colour then I may just have to depart from authenticity for mine. However, this post: Link does show an original Valor Windshield as gold which is more the effect I'm after. I take it then that these gold finishes (on the trivet as well as windshield) were lost as soon as the stoves were lit? If so then it seems the only way to achieve and preserve originality is NOT to light a restored stove. I think then, in the absence of a gold heat-proof paint, I'll just have to apply a satin black stove paint. But as is so often the way when dealing with old things changes occur - while my stove is a Valor I've just had another look at the windscreen and see it's a Burmos. Ho Hum Cheers, John
Hi John, Ross is correct. The original colour of the Valor windshield would have been green, but it would have soom burned off in use. Best Regards, Kerophile.
I'll always bow to the superior knowledge of everyone else on the forum but Trevor's post of his 'mint' Valor windscreen in gold Link made me think an alternative may have been available. Cheers, John
You don't want to be doing that bowing thing - not here on CCS. I said the only one's I'd had were green - not that there couldn't be alternatives. You'll rarely see me being categoric about anything stove related as most of our knowledge isn't 100% complete. If I've seen Trevors post before I've forgotten but it shows they did gold as well so that's cool. I think stove black is a pretty good idea for a user - or lard.
I agree that all the windshields I have seen on Valor 'Packaway' stoves have been green. However I think the gold one of mine came with a Valor 55.
