Hi, cnycl, That is a nice stove. I have one myself, and it is a good performer. I do not mind the noise at all, however. I actually like it louder, the better. I think alcohol burners are good, too, and they are pretty quiet. Noisy or quiet, I like'em all. Incidentally, the particular one you have is, although it uses multifuel, called Vari Fuel. Multi Fuel has the valve that can be attached directly to the regular gas canister, just like the venerable Omni Fuel. Optimus Nova has the similar way of attaching the fuel like to the pump as the Vari. All great stoves.
Hi Bark2much, You are right I had a little confusion with its name. This is my #1 stove for mountain or winter camping and I use it with a trangia alcohol burner. Primus melts the snow and do the primary cooking and trangia makes the simmering. Last year it was nearly -20c degrees in a camp and primus was keeping us hot supplying tea and soup. Also I like its consistency. It always burns no matter what the conditions are or what fuel is used.
Here is some pictures of the Primus Himalaya Varifuel in action: The stove set up for a cup of tea: The pump and fuel bottle. The regulator valve is built into the pump. The fuel hose is screwed into the pump head. Also some advertising for one of the local Scout-groups on the mug: The burner, burning slightly red: And finally all packed together. I'm using a Fjällräven flask pouch to protect the fuel tank. The windshield is rolled around the tank and fits well within the pouch. Easy to attach to the rucksack. Best regards, Rickard S
Anybody tried to retrofit one of these stoves with a valve near the burner like the newer models? I have this stove and I like it because it's rugged and powerful, but controlling the flame is a bitch because of the long, narrow fuel hose.
