Hi, Finally, I hear you say. The last in the series....I have run out of small stoves to try Gary's Universal Mini-Damper on. This is what a Svea 123R with the standard roarer burner looks like: Now here are some photos of Gary's silent damper in operation on the same Svea 123R: It's now time for Turkish Coffee, and this is a good test of a stove as you want a slow simmer, rather than high power: Now we can look at the difference between low power settings and full blast: So, you can see from the photos that the mini-damper performs very well indeed on the Svea 123R. Take a Bow Gary! Well Done! Best Regards. Kerophile.
George, the best you've shown yet. That looks like just about the perfect combination, not only does it perform so well, but it looks so good. I hope Gary's busy as hell over there, a lot of impatient folk waiting.
Kero, That really is something. I am trying to understand. All you did was take the burner plate off then put the silent burner on? You didnt use an inner cap?
Hi HF, as Gary shows in his post, the Gary mini silent damper is actually a very clever gadget. It consists of a base plate, inner silent cap, flow deflector, and outer silent cap, all brazed together into a single unit. It is simply a case of remove the flame-plate and drop in the silent damper. Even I can manage that! Best Regards, Kerophile.
Am drooling over the damper Gary sent you for the 123R. Cant wait to hear that Gary is in full production Ron
I just bought a Svea 123.. I just simply must, must have a "silentgadget" for it.. I use to take a coffee in the evening/night, and use my old "burners" for it, just now my Optimus 43, that works like a charm. But to be considerate to my neighbours (balconys very close), I simply must have a "silencer".. Will check often to see if any available.. Uffe
That universal mini-damper is the best thing since sliced bread indeed! Outstanding photos Kero again!! Cheers, Jeff
Now that's a truly remarkable sight, not that the 123 was a slouch performer before, but it looks like the mini damper can turn it into a simmering champ as well now! Perhaps I owe Gary an apology now, my innocent "have you ever thought of making a silent cap for one of the mini petrol burners"? question, now has him locked in the workshop to keep up with the demand for these things! (Full disclosure, I have one of the first production run mini-dampers, but lazy bum me has not gotten through my backlog of real work to try it out yet. I want to do some scientific boil-time comparison tests)
This goes with the 123 like peanut butter does with jelly. I have to have one for my 123R! Sign me up or point me to the list.
Bernie, I would very much like to convert one of my 123s to silent for the same reasons others have mentioned. Let me know if buying one is possible. Thank you. Paul B
I think Gary is now selling exclusively through eBay. The last time I saw a mini-cap it was over $100. Clearly the demand far exceeds the supply and presents an interesting opportunity for competition.
