So, for me, where I am:

    Kerosene's $4.50 a gallon
    Isopropanol is $9 a gallon
    Methanol is $16 a gallon
Methanol in the form of Purell is $17 a gallon
Lacquer thinner (doesn't look safe) $15 a galon
Kingsfords charcoal starter - NASCAR approved! is $9 a gallon
E85 is probably around $3.50 a gallon but far away (30 miles) and can't carry much on my motorcycle
Wood is free so are acorns which may make an interesting fuel :-)

So, heating with kerosene is cheapest, next in terms of BTUs is the 91% isopropanol I'm able to get, but it's a sooty fuel, and needs to be used in a vaporizing or forced-air system.

It's amazing how expensive some of these fuels are.

What's Coleman cost where you are? Should be about $9 a gallon although the charcoal starter might basically be the same thing as Coleman (Naptha).

Home Despot didn't have Coleman fuel, Wally's may though and I"ll check. They're a buck a gallon cheaper on methanol anyway so I may pick up some tomorrow.

OK cheep methanol (meths) heater: Take a pie pan. Put another pie pan on top. Fill with meths, maybe 5mm deep. Light. Enjoy the heat and blue flame. Yeah, I'm nucking futs! :D/

Wally's should have Coleman fuel. The local Wallyworld here has it for $8.88/gallon, which is the cheapest price hereabouts.

Wallyworld sells methanol? I didn't know that, but then again I don't have much interest in methanol. I'm not a chemist, but what I've read has been pretty clear: ethanol has a higher number of calories per gram of fuel and is safer to use from a toxicity standpoint.
