No just your not allowed. I believe it is to stop the use of photobucket. Since so many pictures/links have been lost. Jeff
It's only in the reference sections. Too many pictures were either being deleted or not showing due to photobucket accounts not being accessed for more than 90 days. I'm sure there was a notice re this somewhere - can't see it now. I'll put a note up - sorry you were not aware
I prefer to use photobucklet because size of the pictures allowed to be post here is too small. It's very irritating then somebody posts interesting photo, but I cant see the details
The size is quite small but a bigger size would eat bandwidth and storage that has to be paid for. You can shrink a pictures size without loss of quality by dropping the number of colours from 1000s to 256. In the early days of internet this is the size everything was. Might it be possible to have a large pictures section but make it available only to subscribing members? This would cover the costs
Believe me - some folks will post indistinct, 'small' pictures even using photobucket. It's more a question of the users skill in using their camera, software etc. My opinion is if you are going to use the tool that is the internet you have a responsibility to learn to use it properly. I self-taught when I got a pc, scanner, then digi camera for the first time - I was a late adopter & it was easy enough. It's just as, if not more irritating to have the 'This image is not available' becuase the user has deleted it or not accessed their account for 90 days. Tell me what 'size' you think we should have rather than that it's too small. What do you define as size? Width & depth or file size in kilobytes. I can post a 72 ppi 800 x 800 picture here with a file size of 50kb which will be just as sharp to the eye as a 300ppi 800 x 800 picture at 5000kb. A lot of the pictures we 'rehost' from photobucket are ofter several hundred kb in size & we optimised them down to less than 100kb without any loss of visible quantity. So we can rapidly eat space to allow for people who can't/won't optimise or we can impose sensible restrictions & tutorials to help folk out. Alternativley allow 3rd party hosting & be at the mercy of the users & hosts keeping the pictures for our benefit for the life of CCS. Happy to discuss this - let me have your input to help shape the future of the site.
