Hi Team. I've got a chance to score an Optimus type 22 from work ( I work in an auction rooms, how cool is that?) It's a bit beat up, obviously it's done the yards over the years, but it's intact and in fair nick for all that. Here's the thing: How do I tell if it's a kero or gas burner and is it worth picking up as a user? Normally I dont do twin burners, but this one isnt too big and if it's anything like my 8R should be a cooking beast. Comments welcome.

    Hey, Mike,

Score the 22 and call yourself a lucky Sod!!!! :D ;) I have two of them, and the 22 is so much better than an 8R, you will be surprised by it's performance. If the case is marked "22", then it should be a kerosene burner; and, if it's marked "22B", then it's a petrol burner. Mine are both 22B versions, and I love cooking on them! They are in big demand, and go for some pretty dear loot on Ebay, most of the time. It's like having two 111, or 111B stoves in the same case, and MAN is that a nice combination!!! Congrats on your extreme good fortune, and have fun with your new 22(B)!!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

    Absolutely no hesitation . . . . . . get it !

I have a 22 and they are a belting stove - just be careful with the left hand burner as it is unique ( right ones are the same as the 111's burner ).

If you are still unsure quote me for carriage to the UK and I'll lift the decision from your shoulders ! ;)

    Cheers

    Definitely a grab

You'll be surprised how once after you have it, you'll be looking for something similar..... and maybe how dearly they go for in $$.

One more to add to the collection, is what I keep saying to myself.

    Hi Mike,

Did you get the 22? If you did, and don't decide to keep it, you probably have a willing "local" buyer here!

    Cheers,

    Tom

Yeah me too. I lost out when the bidding for one went stupid on the Trademe site about a year ago.
