Oh, just wait until the electricity fails and you can whip up her favourite meal on your stove while she reads by the light of your lantern and your Tilley heater keeps her tootsies warm. Aye, she'll be singing a different tune then, you mark my words...
I have to go along with that David,I almost look forward to power-cuts so I can get out the Tilley and still make toast on the Rayburn. Then a warm sense of smugness descends and I don't need the bowl-fire at all!
There seems to be a lot of those 2 burner colemans around at the moment very cheap. I got one 2 weeks ago. Needed oil in the pump washer and a cup of fuel and it shore cranks out the heat. Needs a paint job though and I cant find a model number
My one purchased not going from Dunedin for $18 NZ A few drops of oil and some fuelite and it burst into life It has the copper coloured tank,2 piece cap, cast manifold Clock winder second burner control and wires to hold the windscreen. Its labelled made in Canada but no model number
Whatever this one is or the one above, both are probably earlier than 425 since both look like they have cast iron burner manifolds. Probably 4M. sam
From the rounded corners of the case i'm guessing a 413, or Canadian equilvant. Can you give us some dimentions?? lance

440mm x 390mm x 110mm This thing would burn breakfast It puts out a lot of heat. On a side note the flame sometimes drops in power and moving the control brings it back. Do these have a built in pricker or do I need to do some careful cleaning
Yep, it has a built-in pricker. You could also do some careful cleaning since you are having a power drop and then moving the knob fixes. A cleaning will eliminate most of the power drop. Also check the usual: filler cap gasket, pump check valve seal, burner manifold of cob webs, Coleman fuel usage. If there is junk in the tank that will need cleaned out too. Nice stove you got there. The cast iron models are the best, IMHO. sam
Is this done the same as my newer single burners. ie heat the generator till it glows and when smoke stops coming out its clean?
It may not be that dirty. You could check by removing the generator and then if the coil slides out you don't need to heat and quench. If it doesn't come out then heat and quench is necessary to clean the carbon out of the tube. Remove the jet tip when you do this so you can work the tube from both ends. Once you work the coil out, use some kind of solvent and a tube brush (I use a brass gun-cleaning brush in .22 caliber, to finish the job) to get the inside really clean. The coil should slide in and out of the generator tube easily, when finished. Reassemble and watch it burn! sam
Well I have stripped the ol gal down (the stove ,not me missus) and have started what seems to be a bit of a mission...which one of you says 'never giveup'? Here are the first batch of pics from the start. The burner head flange was broken off and I took it into town to the local engine rebuilders, they brazed it, bead blasted it and machined the flange face...all for $45. Having stripped the burners..all screws and bolts have sheared off so far...I put the bits into my electrolytic bath and derusted them.As you see I have salvaged all the crinkle disca but 5 of the flat ones are stuffed. I will have a go at cutting some more out of thin guage stainless..will that work? The vapourizer is ok, it has cleaned up and should work. The tank is perfect apart from a small pimple dent and after cleaning it up, renewing the pump washer and checking the filler seal, I pumped it up and got good pressure with no leaks.The dimensions of the stove are 440 x 390 x 110...425 or 4M? SO... back to the fettling bench..missus spotted me working on it and said 'that doesn't look like a lamp' ...she's bloody quick, I'll give her that.
Well, I just measured my 425C: 440x290x110. The 425, 413 and 426 series were built in the USA. Your Canada stove is most likely a 4M, tho I'm not really familiar with any of the Canadian Colemans. I've seen one like yours on a Utube vid fired off at -20°C and it performed flawlessly. The way you're going to town on this thing, you're gonna have one fine stove when you're done.
