    Hi Maddog
A warm welcome to the community.
The 45 uses paraffin, and I think the other two do too, but not sure. Post a link to the auction, if you would, so I can take a look-it may become obvious.
As for firing up a new stove...nothing I have remains unused, but I'm in no way precious about collecting. People, I'm sure, have differing opinions on this; but I don't think it will provide a pension, unused or not!!
    Cheers, mate

Welcome MD, they all burn paraffin mate. the 45 is a great stove, and the 121 is great as a one man stove.

:-k You only think you would like to become a stovie? It's too late, matey - you already are! ;)

In my view, you'd have to be as mad as a box of frogs to light the Optimus 45. You've paid a lot of money because it's unlit with all the bits and a tin in spanking condition. So you light it - what have you got? Just another used Optimus 45L, that's what.

I'd keep it as it is and use the other two. If you want to play with a 45 (and there's nothing wrong with that!), you'd be better to buy a used one and sell the unused one to someone who will appreciate it for what it is. Then you'd likely have a good few quid left over to buy some more stoves. \:D/

Having said all that, it's just my two penn'orth and there'll be those who disagree...

    Hey, Mad Dog,

Welcome, Stove Brother, to the best site in the world that deals with stoves!! Yes, you ARE a "Stovie", even it that's news to you! ;) 8)

Though some of our Stove Mates will disagree, I have to agree, strongly, with David, and will encourage you not to light your mint and unused Optimus 45!!! There are plenty of used and serviceable 45's out there, and for very little money. But, there are damned few brand new Optimus 45's to be had, and you are lucky enough to have scored one!!! Keep is in it's unused condition, and many years from now, you will be VERY glad you did so!!! Though I use most of the stoves in my collection, there are a small few that will NEVER be fired up!!! A good part of their rarity and charm comes from the fact that they have never been lit. Do yourself a favor, and enjoy using the other stoves that you found. Search out a nice used 45 to enjoy, too. Keep the new Optimus 45 as it is, and you will thank yourself, many years from now!! Just my two cents....

Again, welcome to this Band of Stove Brothers, and I'll look forward to reading about your camping/fishing/stove-using adventures!! Photos are also warmly welcomed!! Congrats on joining up, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

    Hi maddog

Looks like you've got it bad mate!
Your first whiff of a stove and already you are an addict. |imgRemoved|

As for using that lovely Optimus 45 - DON'T!
I hold exactly the same views as David and Mark on this.
There are plenty of other Forum members who hold the opposite view.
There are very few unused Optimus 45 stoves left in the world - something very special. Once used it just becomes one of the thousands of used ones.

Anyway, good luck with your collecting. I have a feeling that you will soon be after another.
