Hi everyone. Just bought a bit of a challenger from Flea-Bay!! It's a 111, with the tank in a bit of a state. Came with a fair amount of spares, so it was well worth the money, but I want to get it fettled and running. My problem is that - one of the tank captive fasteners is spinning whil'st trying to unscrew the fixing screw, can't get the tank off to do the work needed. Anybody had this problem before and if so how did you cure it?? All idea's appreciated, thanks very much, Neil
Yeah, thought of doing that to get the tank off the case, but once its off, anybody ideas how the now non - captive nut is fastened in? If I use this tank again afterwards, the non - captive nut will have to be soldered back in I guess, otherwise the tank will be junk.
mine is slightly different - on the freed up side of the tank it looks to be pressed in like a Rivnut!
Watever nut, it can be fastened with silver solder. Make sure you have removed whatever residue from any liquid attempts to free the bolt first. An outline on what silver solder is, and what flux (borax based) to use and how, must be lined out thoroughly already in some excellent tutorial somewhere on CCS. Good luck!
Right!!!! - I've cut the head of the bolt, the rivnut/female part promptly fell into the tank! Managed to wangle it out of the filler hole. Warmed it up pretty hot, until the steel bolt turned colour, then with a small pair of Mole grips, gripped the head of the bolt and drew it out. Looks like the pump assembly will have to be unsoldered to get the female part back in the tank for soldering. Then the rivnut/female part silver soldered back in, then the pump tube assembly soldered back in. Not got the gear yet to do the job, I'll have to get researching!!! Thanks guys Neil
