hello my fellow stovies, was wondering if you can help me futher down in this forum i wrote a post about a stove i bought on ebay optimus 45 never been used, think i was mislead!!! it came today and i was so excited at opening the box i nearly cut ma fingers off with a knife lol anyway i opened the first tin and in it was a phoebus 30 looks a little dirty but all looks ok,in the other tin was a seva 120.which also looked gr8.the big time had arrived as i opend the tin of the 0ptimus 45,as i hastely opened the tin,i felt like indiana jones opening the ark of the covanent, waitng for gods holly angels to jump out and welcome me,any way it looked like the picture on ebay a beautiful looking stove,i couldnt help takeing my eyes of the other two stoves i got free with the optimus 45.in the back of my mind was to run down and bye parraffin,to try out the free ones.then i noticed something very weird to me,me being a newbee stovie,i checked over the 45 looking at it as if it was the crown jewels, then i noticed a little piece of which looks to me as carbon on the burner just a little tate mind you.on one of the little pipes,so i opened up the plunger it looked brand new,and then i opened the fuel tank i could smell some sort of fluid,i was wondering when these stoves were made were they tested, did they put spirits in them or anything.if it has been used it only been used once, but being used once isnt what i bided for i payed top brass for it,well ive not payed yet the buyer sent me the stoves with an invoice which was good of him or her, dont get me wrong i like the stoves but feeling a wee bit disapointed if the 45 has been fired up.as a said im a newbee lots of things to learn hope not the hard way..........i put a bid in for the taykit on ebay the other day and my wife took another mini stroke was at hospital for 15 hours yesterday am glad they let her home shes only 35 and had a massive stroke last year which left her paralyised down the right side with no speech, anyway she consoled me about the 45 tht came this morrning. ALLWAYS LOOK ON THE BRITE SIDE OF LIFE!!!! EVEN IF YOU THINK YOUR ON THE DARKSIDE!!!! thanks for reading maddog. live long and prosper!
You might inform the seller of your suspicions and see what his response is. 'Tain't the end of the world. It just seems like it.
Hey Maddog Very sorry to hear about your good lady, I do hope she is recovered and back home soon. With regard to the stove I would raise your queries with the seller - but did they say it definitely wasn't lit or just that they thought it wasn't ? As Ian says it's not the end of the world. I looked at that stove and advised them that it was a 45 - as I can read ! They are lovely stoves, and you have a very fine example. Enjoy it. Keith P.S. Could you post a link to the eBay page, if the seller was shall we say economical with the truth I'm sure other forum users would like to know who they are.
Oooh...a Phoebus! Gool luck with the Tay-Kit, they are hard to find but do pop up on Ebay from time to time. I certainly treasure mine

also can anyone help there wasnt a flame spreader with the 45,,,,, or does it come without one of those , thanks
also there wasnt a flame spreader with the optimus 45 ,i saw a picture of it collector galleries i think its called a heat spreader the plate that sits on top of stove
The 45 doesn't use a flame spreader, it uses a circular flame ring, which would have definitely been included in a new stove. They don't cost a lot, try Base Camp the site sponsors. Cheers Keith P.S. Were you christened Maddoghunter or do you have a christian name ? - can't keep calling you Maddog !
john is my christian name,i got called maddog when a was a youth because i was allways the first to try something dangerous lol it stuck with me,and thanks for the info keith,i got in touch with the seller she said shes real honest which i have no doubt, and said we can come to an agreement,i knew she was honest when she sent me the stoves up front without payment and sounds very sincere, she was told bye her father it was new years ago and she obbvously didnt realise that it has been lit or the circularflame ring wasnt there, probably just like me,dont know much about stoves but love reading about then and looking at them after all am a stovie, got 4 now!!!!
Hey, Mad Dog/John, Very sorry to hear about Karen's medical misadventures! I hope and pray that she is much better now, and that she won't have any future problems of the same kind. Hearing of her problems brings our obsession with stoves into sharp focus. Yes, our stoves are precious to us, but they are not as important as our loved ones. Anyway, best of luck to you and Karen, and congrats on securing some nice stoves, too. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
