Wet Paint (perpetually)

    A word of caution regarding Hammerite paint. It might be OK for a paraffin stove (I've not tested it) but it tends to soften (rapidly) if you spill petrol onto it.
    The 8R I was given had been coated with the stuff some years ago and when I accidentally splashed a spot of petrol onto it, it immediately turned to sticky goo.

    I have had a Hurlock burning at my table for the last 20 min with a temp probe directly under the spirit cup and atop the tank.
    At the worst point it gets to 125degC.

    A standard enamel paint will tolerate that day in day out, but it will get soft!
