Primus Grasshopper gas stove, takes standard Lindel thread gas canisters. A reliable stove and frugal on gas. The first one I had was bought around 1971.
A nice little stove. You're also very fortunate inasmuch as it takes standard Lindel threaded gas canisters. I recently bought a Campak Cookette (an early butane backpacking stove) which if I recall correctly has a valve with a proprietary design. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to get that one working.
They are a nice stove Jim and often go for pennies on eBay, keep an eye out on eBay UK, they are not heavy and so shipping should not be great. Ask this seller, ebay item 120432451959 The collar where the gas can enters is metal on most of them, however on the late models they used plastic instead; I've both and had no problems with either to be honest. Back then, the main advantage for a climber with these stoves over the Bluet range was the removable gas can which meant no leaks in your pack.
Neat to see this one added to the Gallery. Thanks for posting it. It was my first ever camping stove a-way back in the "dark ages". It didn't take long for me to replace it with a Svea 123R. (I still have the Svea.) Cheers, Gary
HELP!!...i am stumped... why does propane leak out where the little wire holder clip thingy is...i have the older model with the aluminum fitting (not plastic )...i took it apart and it looks like it should(am i missing an "o" ring(should there be more the one?))...is there a detailed instruction and parts manual i can refer to?...the one posted here is to small for me to read...i am hoping to use this in japan...it seems the perfect stove to pass customs...kablamachunk
This listing should be changed to "Primus 2255 Grasshopper Stove" There's a 2260 Primus Grasshopper Stove", that uses US propane bottles, with a 1"-20 thread. Murph
I was going to add my "grasshopper" here also a couple of weeks ago, but forgot all about it. It did cost me 2€ to buy, and it had its original box and manual, just as this one. But I had to fettle a while before I got it running as someone had tried to unscrew the cartridge holder without loosening the lock ring and in that way destroyed some threads. Luckily I got it fixed and attached a Sievert (or was it GoFire?) 175 gram gas cartridge to it and brew a can of coffee on it. Worked like a charm
