I'm guessing with the current demise of the Nova, that the X2 is for the moment stove of choice by trangia.

I've just treated myself to an omnifuel, and thought using gas cannisters that they would be suitable for my Trangia 25 and 27.

All I really wanted to ask was, Does the Optimus Adaptor 9101) fit the Omnifuel, and does the more expensive Trangia designed 788205 bracket likewise fit the Omnifuel. Is there anything to be gained by using the more expensive unit other than cosmetics?.

Any other input would be welcome. Thanks Rob

    Hi

I don't really know, but seeing as you have no reply's yet, will try to answer...

The omnifuel has a larger round bolt at the base than the old novas. The newer novas have a D shaped bolt.

If you look in the frankies mods and hybirds section of this site a few people have made their own supports to fit in the trangia. These range from old trangia burners to optimus like adapters. Plenty of ways to do it on the cheap.

If you use the Primus pots with built in heatexchanger and a fold up windshield for the stove you will get much the same performance to be honest.

    Hi all,

Well, I've splashed some cash and bought the Trangia Optimus/Primus adaptor. It's nice, but not £20 worth!!. I've dropped the burner out of the Omnifuel and it drops straight in with no problems. The Trangia windshield will need some alterations to fit the hose. If I continue with the omnifuel, I'm going to put a keyhole in the size of the original one to allow the hose to fit smoothly and be able to remove the unit from the pan. I'm thinging about trying a cobra burner or the 111t burner in the cup to see if that fits any better......so for the moment the jury is out. I've attached some pictures. There is no need to alter any of the tabs, as the unit fits exactly as the Nova was intended to. 1288694296-t1.jpg 1288694296-t1.jpg 1288694354-t2.jpg 1288694367-t3.jpg 1288694397-t5.jpg 1288694296-t1.jpg 1288694354-t2.jpg 1288694367-t3.jpg 1288694296-t1.jpg

Looks like I went mad with the pictures :-). The other thing to mention is that the Trangia offering does away with the adjusting arm on the stove. This obviously simplifies things, with no adjustments being necessary to the windshield.

The price you pay is the loss of immidiate response to flame adjustments.

And I would do the rework on the adapter, your stove is not centered without.

    Hi Juergen,

Thanks for pointing it out.........I'd better just clarify that the stove is centred, it's just the angle at which I took the pictures. It might be possible to re-work the existing control spindle to accept one of the keys for the older stoves, but to be honest, it seems like a lot of work when you can buy the conversion kit from Finland, use a silent burner and probably have a more suitable stove all round............I have to confess to not being all that impressed.............

Frankly, a roarer inside a Trangia never impressed me. Nothing can beat a KAP Arctic design.

You could get a silent cap from Gary for your Omnifuel and you are done.
Drill a second hole adjacent to the existing one besides the strap holder for the fuel line.
    That's all.
