Hy guys, I got me an replacement hood which is available as a sparepart for using a lamp as a stove. It is stainless-steel, and it brought me to the Idea of a custom-lamp. (You may recognize some differences to serial lamps So here it is, using it with the stainless heater increases the heat-output. Now i can use this lamp as a stove, as a heater and still - as a lamp. Still it is not that great toss, but it works and keeps a hot kettle hot. 1L of water boils in about 15 minutes It is just a "nice to have" article, and no, i did not want a beautiful lampstove Best regards, Björn
Coleman? Aaaahm.... No! I will out myself now, it may be hard for some guys here, but ... I don't like coleman lanterns or stoves in any way. Hello Bjorn, I'm curious. Do you find that there is a GREATER heat output using the "radiator" instead of a mantle? After all the purpose of the stove attachment is to utilize the heat that is traveling upward instead of outward. Maybe you are LOSING heat with the radiator. Also, without the globe in place the "chimney effect" is reduced. This is the reason that on the P'max 1500 the shutter is closed when used for a heater or stove with the pot ring. This will bring 1 gallon of water to a rolling boil in 54 minutes. Bob

Hi guys. I tried to measure the exact time for one liter to boil up, using the globe or without - it does not matter, 1l of water needs about 20 minutes to boil up. This is def. too long to call this hood a kookingstove. You've got a nice Petromax 1500 My problem with coleman is their philosophy to replace parts and throw away the old. Before WW2 part of the vaporizers were able to clean and use again, now there are only oneway-parts, that's not my cup of tea. Alomst all of my lamps I restored by cleaning ans changing the seals. Now it became almost a Museum, mixing the lamps with parts of our family-history And now I need more boards again Best regards, Björn

Bjorn, I purchased the new Britelyt 500cp XL with some new upgrades seven months ago. I have the heater and the Britelyt version of the cook stove top. A little different from the cook stove top that you have. It works very well for cooking. Try cooking a hamburger or a nice breakfast with a cast iron skillet on your lantern. I have found that the heat output with the heating element installed appears to be about equivelent to the medium setting on the stove. Most cooking is done at medium and below to simmer unless you are bringing something up to temperature real fast. I am usually up an hour or two before the sun rises each morning. This morning I sat out on the porch in the cool mornings with my Britelyt lantern hours before sunrise and made up two to four cups of cowboy camp coffee with the lantern cook stove top and watched the sunrise. Try to schedule time once or twice per week to use your lantern to cook a meal. You will be surprised at what it can do. Best Regards Stephen From Florida
Oh and buy the way, I forgot to mention, that is a very nice lantern collection you have. You are right about the throw away parts for the coleman lanterns. The one thing that coleman does have on there lanterns that the Britelyt / Petromax style lanterns do not have is the fine light intensity adjustment control knob. Those coleman lanterns can be turned down to a nice low glow when a brite light is not necessary or wanted. I am new to the European petromax style lanterns, lowering the pressure has little effect to reduce light intensity. From the collection I see that you have accumulated you have much more experience with this type of lantern. Is there a way to have better light intensity fine adjustment or is it pretty much on and high or off?
