I was reading in an obscure forum yesterday and someone mentioned that they used diesel fuel in their 111C because it was "designed for it". Has anyone used diesel in a 111C and if so, how does it burn and has it had any deleterious effects? Stan
Hi Stan! I have no experience with the 111C but as far as I know most of the (former) military stoves ran ondiesel. This is quite a smelly mess. The popular German Heinze stove was designated in the army as Diesel-stove. But it also comsumes kerosene. The use of Diesel in the military might be because of logistic reason. I think in general a kerosine-stove runs as well on Diesel with the same results. Regards Michael
The 111C is (or was ) advertised as a three fuel stove. Gasoline (coleman),Kerosene, and as a last resort, Diesel. That is the reason I originaly bought mine, to keep in my diesel pickup. However, Diesel is dirty, very smelly, and indeed a last resort! If you use it, plan on lots of clogging, and the taste of diesel in your food
Has there been any regular problems with the C showing up? I can't remember where but I think I read that the C version had some mechanical problems or was touchy in some way. Stan
Get a T and forget it. I have two and without changing jets or anything but the fuel runs on Coleman fuel or kerosene. All I did to one was exhange NRV's and fired them up.
The 111C burner is a casting, quite massive, needs lots of priming and is subject to cracking. My NIB burner was cracked, right from the dealer! Plus, the fuel tank is steel. I agree, the 111T is a much better choice, IMHO.
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion WDTM = what does that mea I find diesel isn't as bad a fuel as it sounds. Priming with diesel is a mess though. I do love diesels. Jeff
Slightly different stove but I did try diesel in my Hurlock It ran fine and seemed hotter than on kero once. Couldnt light it a second time till I cleaned the jet. It did blacken the pots though
I once tried my 111C on NZ diesel fuel and it was very difficult to start and stank. I would never do it again.
