What brain??? Cheer up mate, alcohol takes some time to leave the body (and brain) after all these new year parties! Take care, Wim
Another quick question: I am using camp stove fuel from a gallon can opened 3-4 years ago. I know fresh is better; but is camp stove fuel the ideal fuel?... no additives?
Hi, EdPDX, Coleman fuel, if kept at a fairly constant temperature, and fairly cool, will last for many, many, many years, unlike what you might hear to the contrary. Lots of us leave the fuel tanks filled on stoves we only use once in a while, with no problems, at all. Kerosene, too, will last a very long time. Though I finally bought some new kero this year, we've been using stuff we bought almost 20 years ago, and it's clean and sweet smelling, and burns nice and blue!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
So I took the stove apart and placed the bits... in little pots. No, actually they all went into the sonic cleaner all afternoon. I found some valve packing and spun it around the spindle. The flame is now yellow with a little blue. errrr! Mybe I didn't get all the water out. I'll run a tank through and see.
Next time you take the thing apart, take some photos and post them, like here: https://classiccampstoves.com/posts/141566 Yonadav
Ed, is the valve packing in the guise of a " graphite valve packing kit" from the hardware store; do the instructions show a water valve? If so, it's no good. Try to light/melt some with a flame. Does it burn/melt into a gummy mess? What you need is pure graphite ribbon or an original graphite packing. If you try to light pure graphite ribbon and hold it in your hand, your fingers will burn and the graphite will remain intact(unchanged). Let us know what you find.
Yes abman47, the packing I got seems to be for water pipes. Some kind of rubbery chemical. I guess I better not use it unless I want to dig out a load of it with tweezers later. Where can I get what I need?
Should the burner plate be flat across the top and just the bowl dipping over the flame? The tabs on mine are folded over the rim and then are bent so the "bowl of the plate dips well below the top of the burner basket. --.___.--
You will most likely cure the yellow flame by raising the plate a fraction. Have a look at this thread - https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/16098 Dave
