Well, I took the plunge, plunked down my cash, and now a little Borde bomb has come to make its home with me. Unfortunately, the control hook didn't come with the stove. So, what's a poor boy to do? How about a bent piece of coat hanger? Would that suffice or does it have to be a pretty high quality piece of steel? I'm sure it must get pretty hot inside that flame... HJ
Jim, coat hanger wire fashioned out of the correct specs will work buddy though I would suggest you just go to the hardware and buy a piece of 2mm soft rod and bend it to specs. Hi Jim, congrats to your Borde Bomb. I bought one about a ýear ago, and that came without the rod too. I took a spoke from a bicycle tire, and made a hook that fitted the controlwheel. And to make it even more luxurious, I took a pen from a conferencecenter that had a wooden body, (the pen, not the center) removed the stylus, and inserted the sprocket there, to get a insulated handle. I had some reservations about the thicknes of the bicyklepoke, and had a moped-spoke as a ready backup, but the thinner bicyclespoke in good for the job. Best regards, and good luck with the bomb. Hi HJ, The suggestions already provided should solve your issue. I'm assuming you already understand this, but just in case, you don't actually leave the control hook in the flame (unless you want some interesting patterns in your thumb). So the few seconds required to adjust the flame shouldn't be an issue for any steel based rod you choose. Apologies if you already understand this! Cheers, Graham.
Hi, Ron, Thanks. I've taken delivery, and I already am rather taken by the stove. Everything seems in order, but I haven't fired it yet. It did not come with a pot stand of any kind. I've been considering getting one of the titanium ones that are sold on eBay. If you do a search on "Borde," you'll see what I mean. HJ
Hi, Graham, Yes, a bit like the key on a Svea 123. I imagine those who leave it attached to the stove do so only once. I figured a coat hanger would work, but the steel is so cheap in coat hangers that I was afraid maybe it would fail or something and I'd be left with, literally, a bomb with no means of control. Morning, HJ, Outstanding, Sir!! Congrats on getting your own Borde stove, Jim!! I think you will love it, as I do my own. So, are you going to bring it to our snow camp, if we can get that plan in action?? Inquiring minds want to know??!! As to the regulating rod, I'd go with the better steel, myself, and will actually do that when I get around to cobbling up one for the Borde I have without it's wire. Coat hangers just don't inspire confidence in me, and probably not in you, either. Lots of ways to go getting a windscreen/pot support together. CB, from up in Canada, made the first one I got, and did a great job on it! In fact, I prefer it to the original Borde one I got much later! Or, you can get one of those Swiss Ranger cook sets. Enlarge the side hole, and VOILA, the Borde fits perfectly into it, just as shown in the Borde instructions! Last, if you really feel like jumping into it, is to copy the original Borde folding stove case/windscreen/pot support that I have, for your own Borde! So, lots of options. One more, that is really inexpensive: If you have a Trangia Westwind stove, you can fit the Borde for use with the windscreen that came with that stove. If you don't have one, you can easily make your own in a very short time. There are plans on CCS for how to do so, or I can show you my Westwind setup, and you can copy it! you are going to come to love this stove,it's takes a bit of getting used too but in the end it will be your #1..i have adjusted mine with everything from a stick,yes it caught fire,to the spoon i was mixing the oatmeal with
Why thank you. I'm quite excited about it. I'd love to bring it to snow camp, but when is snow camp? We need to get on it in terms a date. What about the weekend of 22 Jan or 29 Jan? I don't suppose, if it weren't too much trouble, that you could post a photo of the control hook? I suppose it's not really important to replicate the hook. All I really need is something that will turn the "star" wheel, yes? Perhaps a bicycle spoke as has been suggested. I suppose just about any metal object that will turn the burner would work. I'm really not sure what to get in terms of a pot support. Something light and compact would be nice. I was thinking about buying one of the titanium ones on eBay, but I have no idea if they're any good. The stove is used but appears to be in good working condition and does not appear to have seen much use. I paid a total of $138.00 for it. Kind of self indulgent on my part, but I have been rather curious about them for some time. HJ

Hey, HJ, I just emailed you two photos of Borde stuff. I'll post that info here, too, in case anyone else needs it. The first photo shows a wonderful Borde windscreen that CB, one of our long time CCS members, made me, several years ago. I actually like it better than the original Borde windscreen that I also own. Also in the same photo, are two regulating rods, one old and one new. The second photo is just the two regulating rods, the old one on top, and new one on the bottom. Old and new are exactly the same, but I have seen some with a ring at the end of the rod that you hold, instead of just a plain wire. I included a ruler, just for a little scale, and hope that helps you some. If you have any other questions, please let me know, and I'll do my best to find the answers. By the way, if your Borde is in good condition, the price you paid if fair, IMHO. I've paid a GOOD deal more, and quite a bit less, too, depending on the condition, box, paperwork, and other accessories. Congrats on scoring your Borde, Jim! Take care, and God Bless! Thanks, Doc; helpful photos. I saw several brand new Bordes at a shop in Japan. I forget the exact price, but I'm sure it was over $200.00, so $138 (shipping included) seemed like it was in the ball park. Well, I got nothing but the stove, but the stove seems to be in good shape. As for a pot stand, perhaps I'll experiment as Uffe did. I really don't know what the various advantages and disadvantages of the different types would be. HJ
