Optimus 111 regulator wheel colors?

I have noticed that the regulator wheels on 111 stoves came in differrent colors. I have seen white, green, and and what seems to the most common reddish brown. My 111b with an embossed case has the reddish brown. I would assume it was made prior to 1962.
Now here is the question Is the color an indiccation of when it was made, or did Optimus use diferrent color wheels on differrent models IE 111, 111b, and so on.

Bill (paramethtrol) is the main driver of 111 research/dating ? ... but he's not been around these parts lately.

The reddish brown is the natural color of the phenolic resin used to make the knobs, commonly known here in the US as Bakelite.

I suspect that the addition of colorants might have affected the heat resistance to the point where few, if any, survived.

Ive not experienced any material breakdown of 111 control knobs ... Theyre a good distance from the heat source .

I would of expected the knob coulor to match the 22 where redbrown was for petrol white kero and black meths

 

Ah, I didn't know that! Makes sense!
And the green ones are just military?

 

I've seen the Military 111's with Black knobs

 

That would explain why all the 8R that had knobs were red/brown--until they went over to stamped stove keys.
